New P&Z commissioner chosen By MONROE ROARK
The Fayetteville City Council voted Thursday night to approve a new member of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission. The council unanimously approved Mayor Kenneth Steele's recommendation that Derryll Anderson succeed Al Lipscomb as the commissioner from Post 4. Lipscomb's term expired at the end of 2001 and she chose not to continue on the commission. Anderson was chosen from among three applicants who responded after the city advertised the vacancy, City Manager Joe Morton said, and she was interviewed by a panel comprised of various city officials. A retired teacher who now works in residential real estate, Anderson was raised in Fayetteville, Morton said. "It's a good appointment," said Councilman Al Hovey-King. "She'll bring a good perspective to planning and zoning. She's a sharp lady." Morton said last month that the new commissioner, when selected, would attend the Atlanta Regional Commission's Planning Academy to receive a "crash course" in planning matters. The commission meets for its monthly work session this Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall. The monthly voting meeting is scheduled for March 26.
