J&R Clothing looks at Fayetteville site By MONROE ROARK
The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission will consider this month a request to relocate the J&R Clothing store at the north end of Fayette County into the city. Richard Dumas, the owner of J&R Clothing, has submitted a rezoning request for 4.8 acres at 1307 Highway 85 north. The tract, also known as the Davis property, sits directly across the highway from New Hope Road. Dumas wants to rezone the property to C-2 and develop a 34,600 sq. ft. shopping center, a portion of which would house the clothing store. He is also asking for two variances, to address off-street parking spaces and allow a reduction in the distance between curb cuts. The city's future land use map calls for business park uses at this location, according to city staff, and a change in the map is recommended if the commission decides to recommend approval. The parking variance would allow 150 parking spaces, instead the 173 normally required for a development this size, city staff said. The other variance would allow curb cuts 350 feet apart instead of the required 500 feet. One of the curb cuts would be directly across from New Hope Road and would provide access to the property to the south when it is developed, while the other would be right-in, right-out only, according to city staff.
