The Development Authority was created in 1973 by a Fulton County Board of Commissioners resolution and Georgia law to promote economic development throughout the county. Since then, the authority has issued over $3 billion in taxable and tax-exempt bonds.

The bonds provide financing for businesses that were relocating or expanding existing facilities in Fulton County, resulting in the creation or retention of more than 335,000 jobs.
