Landmark names 'Heisman' candidates

Landmark Christian School has selected two outstanding 2002 seniors, Julie Van't Wout of Peachtree City and Ben King of Fairburn, to contend in the eighth annual Wendy's High School Heisman Program.

These students were chosen based upon their performances on the field, in the classroom, and in their communities.

The Wendy's program recognizes high school seniors nationwide who have learned to collaborate and appreciate the interrelation of academics, athletics and community service.

The program currently constitutes five phases: nomination, state finalists, state winners, national finalists and national winners. Entries are evaluated by a scholastic review service during the initial phases after nominations are made by each school's principal. Finalists are then passed on to a panel of judges including past Heisman Memorial Trophy winners, education, business and community leaders to elect the national finalists and winners.

Each school with a nominee finishing in one of the aforementioned categories will receive a cash award ranging from $500 to $4,000.

The 12 national finalists will fly to New York to participate in the Heisman weekend festivities Dec. 6-9. ESPN will broadcast the presentation of the Wendy's High School Heisman awards to the two national winners Dec. 8 preceding the presentation of the college Heisman Trophy awards.
