Brooks to honor Vernon Woods It will be Vernon Woods Day in Brooks Aug. 19, honoring one of the town's most prominent citizens. A reception in Wood's honor is planned from 3 - 5 p.m. A lifelong resident of Brooks, the WWII veteran was instrumental in reactivating the town's charter in 1968, and served on Town Council from 1965 until 1988. He also played a vital role in creation of the town's water system, placement of street lights, development of emergency first responder capabilities and organization of the Recreation Department and town library.
