School starts Friday with 20,000 students By CAROLYN

Projected enrollments in Fayette County have been released by the Board of Education. It is expected that 20,403 students will be in their seats Friday, Aug. 10. The enrollment for last year at the same time was 19,570 students, according to school board public information specialist Melinda Berry-Dreisbach. The 14 elementary schools will have an estimated 8,436 students; the five middle schools are expecting 4,965 students; and the five high schools will be experiencing an enrollment of 7,002 students. Those riding on county school buses will be taking a total of 166 buses with 24 of those dedicated to special education students. Starting times have also changed with all elementary schools beginning at 7:45 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m.; middle schools begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. An exception is Fayette Middle, which begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m. High schools each begin at different times: McIntosh at 8:30 a.m., Starr's Mill at 8:34 a.m., Fayette County at 8:35 a.m. and Sandy Creek at 8:40 a.m. Each school's ending time is seven hours later.
