Rising Starr wrestling team takes second at championships

The Rising Starr Middle School wrestling team placed second at the 2001 Metro Middle School Athletic League Wrestling Championships at Union Grove Middle School in Henry County.

The lineup of 17 wrestlers produced 13 medalists and four overall league champions Ryan Jones (75), Cory Radcliffe (85), Devin King (90), and Sean O'Brien (110).

Ritch Caraway (100) and Kevin Brown (115) placed second, while David Thurber (85), David Drake (127), and David Jones (157) placed third. Tom Carroll (137), Chris Rodell(147) and Brooks Parker (275) finished in fourth place.

In the exhibition tournament, Rising Starr produced four champions and nine medalists. The champions were Josh Martin (75), Matt Hartpence (100), Kegan Overton (105) and Jake Hudson (137). Chris Jagstadt (75) and Chad fletcher (100) received second place in the exhibition tournament. Robert Burbage (90) received third place, while Michael Kadow (90) and Josh Sterling (115) placed fourth.

Dennis Bogumill is the head coach of the team and looks forward to another stellar season next year.
