Weather radios donated to school system

The Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services has donated 34 Midland Digital Weather/All Hazard Alert weather radios to the Fayette County School System.

The radios were provided as a joint effort of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services-Emergency Management Agency.

The radio is capable of providing weather information concerning severe weather watches, warnings and special weather statements. In addition, through an "all hazards" concept, it can be used to warn of non-weather related incidents in the community.

"The digital weather/all hazard alert radios will provide the most current communication technology concerning weather emergencies. This addition will enhance the safety measures and procedures already in place," said Wayne Robinson, director of secondary school operations. "We appreciate the support and continued assistance from our local and regional emergency service personnel."

Capt. Pete Nelms, emergency management coordinator for Fayette County, arranged for the donation.
