The temperature outside might suggest otherwise, but the Fayette County Recreation Department is ready for fall.

The fall Adult Softball Leagues begin play this week with the Open Co-Rec League playing Mondays, the Church Men's League Tuesdays, and the Open Men's League Wednesdays. The Co-Rec League consists of eight teams, while the Church Men's and Open Men's each have 12 teams.

Each league will play a ten-game schedule and all games will be played at McCurry Park in Fayetteville.

The Recreation Department also is offering a new adult athletic program this fall. The Fall Open Basketball League will begin play in mid-September at the LaFayette Educational Center (the old Fayette County High School) gym.

Games will be played on Thursday evenings. The league will play a nine- or 10-game schedule followed by a playoff. Currently four teams have signed up. The Recreation Department is looking for one or two more teams to round out the league.
