Construction crews continue to make headway on Senoia’s new police department and municipal court building on Howard Road. The $1.3 million facility is expected to open for business in late spring.

The Senoia City Council last week unanimously approved a $2.1 million general fund budget for 2010. The sum represents an increase of $19,800, or .95 percent, over 2009.

The Senoia City Council reluctantly approved a large change order to help the expansion of Winpak Films continue.

In a special called meeting Monday night, city administrator Richard Ferry explained the dilemma the city faced. Ferry explained the city agreed to pay for infrastructure improvements, including a new public access road and road improvements to Howard Road.

The revitalization of downtown continues.

The latest event that promises to draw more residents and visitors to the historic downtown is"Art Senoia." The art show debuts April 25 with an opening reception from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. at 20 Main Street in historic downtown Senoia. This is the first event of the newly formed Cultural Arts Committee of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority.

City to render decision on tire center Monday

The Senoia City Council could start off the new year by resolving a bit of unfinished business from last year.

On Monday night, the City Council will decided what to do about the proposed redevelopment of Crook’s Tire Center on Ga. Highway 16. With the widening of the busy state highway to start earlier this year, owner Greg Crook is hoping to get an answer on the redevelopment, so the project can get started in a timely fasion.

Children enjoyed a puppet show and stories relating to fairy tales at this week’s storytime at the Senoia Library. The puppet stage was donated to the Senoia Area Library by the Newnan-Coweta Public Library to which the Children of Senoia say “Thanks”. Pictured are children displaying dragon puppets made during Storytime. The June 21 program is at 10:30 a.m. at the Freeman Sasser Building at the Senoia Park. The guest will be the famous “Music Man,” Eric Litwin. On June 28, storytime is back at the Senoia Library. “Queen Glitter” arrives on July 12 at the Freeman Sasser building. A single-engine plane based in Macon crashed in Senoia Sunday night, killing its pilot, officials said Monday morning.

My wife Judy and I have chosen to live and raise our family here. We truly love Senoia and want nothing more than for it to remain the wonderfully unique place that it is. We have been fighting for this quality of life since 1996 when we first became politically active because of the failed community sewer system in Martinwood Subdivision.

It is a great honor to be a candidate for City Council for the City of Senoia.

I am dedicated to being fair for all citizens in all neighborhoods. I know many of you and I hear you. Sadly, my opponent Murry McAffy is an angry man. After years of incompetence as our city administrator the council effectively terminated him with a unanimous vote. Now Murry wants to come back to the city in an elected position where his votes and influence can affect all citizens. I ran for city council because the people of Senoia deserve a choice, a choice for a positive, let’s look ahead to the future approach. We have dramatic issues facing our city. Growth is around us, upon us and if we’re not careful will consume us. The entire city needs to come together. One of my goals while in office is to encourage residents from the newer communities (sub-divisions) to come to council meetings and to get involved with their city. We are too isolated from one another. My opponent wants you to think that I am exclusive and only mingle with a few, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Inclusive group discussions with as many residents as possible is what will continue our cities progress. We have so much to offer residents and the visitors who come to our town. With the planned construction of bike trails connecting the newer communities together through downtown, park renovations, library construction and hopefully a new restaurant we begin unstoppable good progress. The next few years of development and growth will be some of the most exciting years Senoia has seen in nearly 90 years. Get curious, attend council meetings and when I’m elected please call me or visit me, tell me your vision for our town. Together we make the difference. Please vote for me on November 8th to fairly and positively represent you the residents of Senoia.
