peachtree city

Hi, all. I have been reading the blogs on citizen.com for a few weeks now. We are planning to move to Peachtree city or Fayetteville. We are a non-white, middle class, educated family. From what I read about PTC and its treatment of the not-so-moneyed-class, it makes me concerned.

Yes...you are quite right to be concerned. Be very concerned. I've lived here for a while and still haven't figured out why some (not all) of the people that live here feel superior. We're all just people...some with more money than others. I know wealthy people, upper middle class, middle middle class, lower middle class, and people living in poverty. AS for my likes...the wealthy come in last.
Reality check people....Peachtree City is NOT the Garden of Eden.

Welcome to PTC Smiling
I grew up in ptc nearly my whole life. If your kids are into sports theres tons of that around here. Soccer is huge in our town and if you've got girls theres a great softball program. I played for years and loved it! Nearly all the kids I know play at least one sport.
As for the whole golfcart thing its really worth the money! When your kids are really young it will put them to sleep and its an excellent source of transportation when they get their permit cause you won't have to drive them around everywhere and it also helps you learn to drive a car! Plus its great for going to dinner with the family(saves gas Smiling or when you want to show your relatives from out of town ptc. People always get a kick out of it.

Get used to saying. . . yeah I live in peachtree city. . . yes its the town with all the golfcarts Smiling

Also . . . I grew up in both schools. . .
Starrs Mill High School side and McIntosh High School side . . . went to school with both sets of kids. I always liked the McIntosh side better. I thought the kids had more substance to them and treated each other with more respect. Weren't as competitive with each other.

Starrs Mill has a better football team.
McIntosh is amazing a soccer !

Either way Im sure your kids will find something to do they love.

i am in no way bias in this statement...its not like im sitting in MHS writing this right now or anything...ha.

welcome to the PTC

yeah alot of people can get a bit snooty about the money situation. All of my friends got new cars for their 16th birthday (and some were BMWs). My parents balked at the idea of getting me any sort of mode of transportation of my own. That caused some tension i suppose, but I got over it. My friends kid around with me about it but it really isn't bad. Some people can get snooty with the money thing. My advice: just nod, smile, and say "Oh I just love the bubble." Then attempt to get these people beyond the money. Once you "de-bubblize" the people here, you'll find them friendly.

This really is a great place to live and even though I complain alot and am COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS until i graduate, I know I'm actually going to miss it. Enjoy! :]

Welcome to PTC or where ever you decide to make home.
And if you need a realtor I know a good one:)
The are a few small minded people who make it sound like the whole place is as small minded as them. It is for the most part a great place to raise kids.

Other wise I'd be living some where else!!!!!

Next time Jennifer, why don't you take out an add and PAY for it like everyone else does.

Talk about small minded people. You're so cheep in your approach I'm surprised that you get any listings.

Aw...c'mon. Get a life. The lady was just trying to be helpful. If somebody needs assistance...and another person is qualified to help...what's the harm ?

I could believe that Metrobrokers pays for advertising space in the Citizen, yet I can’t find anything with your name on it in the Real Estate section.

Could be your new to this; I see that you joined the blog just 4 days ago.

I’m surprised that Wade didn’t teach you better than that.

Anyway, please don’t run your add in the blog section, it’s tacky; that’s what the Real Estate section is for.

Can the adds on the blogs lady.

Let me offer you a different angle. THere are plenty of people in Peacthree City who have achieved financial success AND who are successful parents, neighbors etc. It is a mistake to stereotype the "moneyed" class just like it is wrong to stereotype the "non-white" class. Anyone who looks down their nose at you because they live in a big house is an idiot.
If you are peaceful, law abiding, honest, hard working, good parents - you are always welcome here whether you are pink, purple, blue, or any other shade with a million bucks stashed away or only a penny in your pocket

You sure don't want in Clayton County, then. Down right unsafe with the gang and such activity.

Your options are pretty much Fayette or Coweta.

As long as you don't come here playing race cards or such. That is what turns people off.

I have non-white neighbors. My dear friends for years.

They and we are definitely the not-so-moneyed class as well.

Be a good human, not a good $class or race-class and you will be happy here.

A lot of people in PTC do not make big bucks.

If you have lived in PTC long enough, would you tell me if this is also the attitude of people in general. Also how is Fayetteville compared to PTC?

Submitted by jennifer lorello on Sun, 08/06/2006 - 5:30pm.

The one thing PTC has, is that it is a Planned comm.
The Golfcart trails and rec dept make it stand out and the schools test scores have been a little higher than other fayette school
Either way if you need to be in south Atlanta Fayette co. shines

Three years ago we decided to move to Fayette county in order to get out of the traffic congestion and crowded schools. Just my opinion.....I think PTC is just like living in Gwinnett county except for the traffic and over crowding every where you turn! Yes, I have met some people here in PTC who feel they are better because of their income status but I see those types every where. As for school ratings, the rating numbers apply to the county and Fayette county scored very well. Most of our friends with children chose Cobb county for the school system/ratings rather than Fayette county. If the school ratings are high on your list of priorities, check out the rankings. I do not see that PTC schools are any better than Fayetteville.

If you find a house you really love.....whether it is located in Fayetteville or PTC, I'm sure you will make it a happy home for you and your children.

Fayetteville and PTC are the same school system.

But Fayetteville and PTC are most assuredly different.

The school issues, between such as Fayette and Cobb, have been argued before. You will find no college knocking Fayette.

We have lived here 20 years.

Attitude varies. You have a full spectrum from snobs to very nice and giving people.

In general, I think most keep to themselves, but when when having to interact prove decent, once they see you are decent.

While there are racial issues for some, from BOTH sides of the coin, I believe you will find, overall, less here than in most places.

Our son graducated here and then graduated with honors from college.

The schools are too touchy feelie for me, in elementary and middle. Then they suddenly become very student responsible and stricter in High School.

But, from all the school systems I am aware of, it is the place to be and a big reason we chose here.

A good association will give you a good place to live. Just make sure what you want lines up with what the community is. READ the documents before buying!

As for Fayetteville to PTC, PTC is the hands down winner. But neither ar perfect.

Your kids have opportunities in Scouting and 4-H. Mine made Both Eagle and Master 4er. And that makes a difference in the kid.

Not saying makes a perfect kid. Still get frustrated with mine, a lot. But now he is his wife's problem.

Hope that helps.

Why are you afraid to use your real name ?
Yes, I have 2 listing in the paper.
And I was trying to be helpful
Not all of us are nasty to other people like you.
It dosen't take any more effort to be nice than to be nasty.
Its your choice.
