Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Geoffrey Barto of Auburn, Ala. and Mr. and Mrs. William Alvin Cottrell III of Peachtree City announce the engagement of their daughter, Kristin Anne Cottrell, to Joseph Darin Appleton, son of Dr. Bonnie Ann Appleton of Marietta and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fletcher Appleton of Newnan.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Dr. Howard Francis Tucker and the late Mrs. Howard Francis Tucker of Auburn, Ala., Ms. Kathleen Schley Cottrell Bosell of San Francisco, Calif., the late Mrs. Marilyn Percy Cottrell of New Orleans, La., and the late William Alvin Cottrell Jr. of Mobile, Ala. She is a 2004 graduate of Auburn High School in Auburn, Ala. and a 2008 graduate of Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., with a bachelor of science in business administration and a major in accounting. While at Auburn, she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Social Sorority, secretary and treasurer of Omicron Delta Kappa, Student Government Association Senator at-Large, chairman of the Auburn University College Republicans and a member of Mortar Board and Cardinal Key honor societies. She is currently finishing the required classes for the certified public accountant exam at Auburn University.
The future groom is the grandson of Charles Williams and the late Mrs. Charles Williams, of Sebring, Fla., the late Rupert Harold Royer, of Miami, Fla. and Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Hayne Appleton, of Birmingham, Ala. He is a 2002 graduate of McEachern High School in Marietta and a 2007 graduate of Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. with a bachelor of science in building construction. While at Auburn, he was president of Pi Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity, treasurer of Order of Omega Honor Society and a member of the Interfraternity Council. He is currently a project engineer for R.J. Griffin and Company in Atlanta.
The ceremony will be Nov. 21, 2009 at Auburn First Baptist Church in Auburn, Ala. with a reception to follow at Fountainview Mansion.
