Robert Gwin Gard, 85, Tyrone, died June 20, 2009. He was born July 31, 1923 in Escambia County, Fla., to the late Roscoe Irving and Mae Gwin Gard. He was veteran of the United States Army in World War II and was featured in the book, "Stalag Wisconsin," published in 2002. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He was retired in 1988 from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 676 with over 40 years of service.

Services were at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, Washington Court House, Ohio with interment at Good Hope Cemetery, Good Hope, Ohio. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth Brown Gard, formerly of Pike County, Ohio; a son, Robert Eugene and Bonnie Gard, Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Mary Gay and Robert Brown, Tyrone; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 1294 Hwy. 54 W., Fayetteville, GA 30214.

Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
