I was just wondering if its safe to be swimming in ponds or lakes around here. The one i swim in is at a friends house and has a creek flow through it that is damned on the other side and flows out so its not stagnant water but its murky looking and you cant see the bottom. Thanks

Lakes around here....Your observation about the pond/lake you swim in having a flow of water is a good one since that will likely reduce the chances of bacteria. Often the most common form is fecal coliform and is more likely with stagnant water. The depth of the water is also a factor. If shallow it creates a better environment. The murky water is most commonly just a symptom of a high sediment level which is common and not necessarily horribly unhealthy. If it has not rained in a few days that factor is minimized. You might want to call the Fayette County Board of Health. They test Lake Peachtree (which has a lot of swimmers) and they may do the same for your pond. With this weather a swim sounds good !

Is there anyone on here or anyone you know who swims in Lake Peachtree?
Where is the entrance to the lake for swimming?
Do PTC code cops care?

I know a long time ago I remember seeing signs saying "NO Swimming in Lake", at Lake Kedron and I'm assuming the same thing goes for Lake Peachtree. I know originals to PTC could use their motor boats on Lake Peachtree, no one else. I did see some swimmers once that were swimming off their boat in Lake Peachtree, not off the lake shore. I would think if they wanted you to swim in the lakes they would have made a beach at all the lakes in the County. I would also think that would not have been a good idea because of lawsuits the County might encounter from possible drownings or injuries. Also since all the lakes in PTC and some in the County are our drinking water I would hope they do not allow swimming in these lakes.

On swimming in small ponds or lakes, if you don't mind dodging the snakes, why not.

Swimming is fine in Lake Peachtree as long as you a City Resident, or accompanied by one.

is the most popular place for swimmers to enter. Smiling

I'll check and see if there are any braille signs at the park off of Battery Way...which just happens to be in SPYGLASS Subdivision.
