Georgia's run-off election

I was reminded of the "Georgia" of old" today as to the way the run-off was done.

In the general election early voting was allowed for several days, allowing those who work during the open hours to arrange to vote on several time schedules---not so in the run-off.

Also, in this election today, one voted in a different place than we did in the early voting previously!
Signs were also scarce! Saw no notices anywhere in any paper or Tv show about any of that!

No one is going to fill out the forms and go to two places to vote and they know it!

Believe it or not, every citizen has a right to vote no matter their color, assets, or intelligence!

When people register to vote, they are assigned a place to vote, and this location is on their registration card. Early voting is done at just a few locations in each county.

There was early voting for this run-off.I saw the lines at the registration office in Heritage Park where people were voting early. The last day for early voting was one day last week; I believe it was Thursday.

If a person cannot understand that the location of their voting poll is on their registration card, and that they can call if they want to find out about early voting (the number is on their card), how would they ever figure out who to vote for?

Submitted by Bonkers on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 5:18am.

You don't know either!
There was NO early voting in Fayette county or PTC.

The card you speak of isn't used now or for years as i.d.

I think you well know what is going on.
I suppose some of the people who voted the first time saw no reason to elect either "white" boy as there was no help there from either!

Gosh - does that mean that when my husband and I voted in Fayetteville the week before the election - our vote wasn't counted? There was early voting in Fayette County.

Submitted by Bonkers on Thu, 12/04/2008 - 5:54am.

We are talking about the run-off election this week!!! Yes thnere was early voting in the original election. Just at a diferent place! No early voting in PTC in the run-off!

Do you see why there is mass confusion that keeps many people from voting?

We have no right to try and discourage voting. We should encourage all voting by everyone. Do not re-start the crap going on here in the 50s.

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 12/04/2008 - 4:31pm.

I hope most of the voters were more informed than you. My husband and I voted early in the run-off election. There were signs posted in the Fayette County offices; there was an announcement in the paper; and we were called on the phone and received mailers about the early voting for the run-off. I'm old - but Alzheimer’s hasn't gotten me yet! Smiling

Submitted by skyspy on Thu, 12/04/2008 - 7:59am.

All, y'all, are the only ones who are confused. Everyone else went online, read the newpaper or watched the news. We all knew where to go for early voting.

If I had realized you weren't up to speed I would have started a blog 2 weeks before the election to explain it to you.

Submitted by Bonkers on Thu, 12/04/2008 - 8:19am.

I give up on trying to explain to you about completely free and unencumbered voting allowed for everyone---after this last try!

First, I had no trouble voting in the general election or in the run off election--I did vote, although I went to the wrong place first in the run -off due to it being in a different place than when I voted in the general election!

It has nothing to do with who won or lost--I voted for McCain in the general election and against Chambliss in both!

Here is precisely what I am talking about, due to your "acting" dumb or really are:

Some minorities and some dumb people and some poor people need all the help they can get in order to be able to vote! We should provide that help with consistent voting places, plenty of signs, newspaper ads, and TV announcements which cost nothing for this sort of thing!

You don't really want me to enumerate the horrible in-justices perpetrated onto these people in the past do you, to keep them from voting?
I think you know, but if you don't for some unexplainable reason, I will tell you. Let me know.
(where you going boy? Stand in line there, we will call your name when you can go in, (never do), where is your poll tax receipt? How you gonna vote? Do you own any land or have a job? Can you write, boy? Don't get too close to those sour looking church ladies in there boy! Wench, what are you doing here?
Silence is the current weapon.

If they are too dang dumb and inept to find the polls then obviously they are too dang dumb and inept to vote. I personally desire a certain amount of difficulty in the voting process. That way we can eliminate a certain percentage of the population that lacks the cognitive skills necessary to make the important decisions such as who are future leaders are to be.

Please stop, find something else to complain about.

I see you had no problem voting for the white Democrat, it must just be those black Dems you have problems voting for.

Maybe you are not registered to vote. According to the Georgia Secretary of State's website, "Voter registration is a county function. Georgia counties issue voter registration cards after reviewing and processing applications."

Our family didn't vote early but we could have just didn't make it to Fayetteville in the time period. I believe it was in this paper at one time that you could vote early in the run offs. There wasn't much advertising of the run off just a few signs of Saxbeee none that I saw of Martin. We were surprised at the busy place of voting. We actually had to wait a few minutes.

My spouse and I surmised it was probably all the church people doing there duty for Saxbeee as was told to do, bless you all, as was told to me when I answered one of the 3 or 4 calls per day about this run off and please vote for Saxbeeee. One good call, a recording, from a VET who said Saxbeee was NO FRIEND to our Soldiers and VETERANS and to for Vote Martin. I sure hope now that do nothing Saxbbbeee has won the run off he votes yes for anything our Soldiers and Veterans need, this time around.

The ONLY reason this voter held his disgusted nose and voted for that RINO so-called conservative was as a desperate attempt to block a super majority in the senate from taking place. I don't trust either party with that sort of unbridled power. I understand this country has a desire for a bigger and more socialistic government. But good grief, any reasonable person should demand some sort of checks and balance within the system. And since the courts refuse to enforce the laws then hopefully, and I pray hopefully this small roadblock to a super majority will moderate some of the whack jobs like yourself Boo Boo.

With that said I've fought against that old recycled Democrat Saxby Chambliss for years. A month ago I wrote in Donald Duck or some other other cartoon character against Saxby. I've been nauseous all night long for doing so. I'd be even more ill if the left had a super majority in the senate right now. But take comfort Boo Boo... with several of the left leaning RINO's in the senate there will be very little stopping our rapid descent into socialism and limited opportunities for all.

I don't want to interfere with the banter with boo boo, but I just want to make my first and last comments about Saxby:

He's a republican. Folks often like to call the republicans they don't like half democrats or closet dems, but Saxby was voted in by republicans and for republicans. His actions or lack there of are courtesy of the GOP.

Last but not least, I was amazed at his acceptance speech last night when the crowd booed at the mention of "President-elect Obama." They booed. I was amazed. Saxby said that Georgia was on the national stage. He said the world was watching. And the world got to see folks raise their arms and give double thumbs down to their new president. Not a class move, and that's what I'll remember.

God bless, say a word for Wulf, and I'm off to OKC

There has been no checks and balances for the last 8 years under the Bush Administration. Were you jumping up and down about checks and balances then/now? Saxby will do nothing in the Senate just like before along with do nothing Westmoreland. I am a moderate not a lefty or on the Right..I vote the person, NEVER the PARTY. I wish more would do the same. You are right though I believe the Dems will have the votes to pass legislation and clean up Bushes atrocity's. I am a moderate not a lefty or on the Right

Don't go peeing on my foot while trying to convince me it's raining. I've read you for sometime now and views are nowhere near moderate.

I vote the person, NEVER the PARTY.

Ohhhh... Okay..... To quote a world famous philospher let me just say "whatever".

This mess won't be fixed over night it took many years to create this mess and Bush and friends are not completely at fault because the atrociousness started in Reagans time in office.

Spoken like a true moderate. Pleeeezzzzeee......

What a fool to think that the challenges we face in this country stem from a single party. Yes Boo Boo. I am calling you a fool.

Personally I think a little Reagan would do us all some good these days.

Balance the budget by bringing to heel a federal establishment which has taken too much power from the states, too much liberty with the Consitution, and too much money from the people.
-----
Balancing the budget is a little like protecting your virtue: You just have to learn to say "no".
-----
Government is too important to be left to those who are not too busy; the professionals who think government has some sort of divine right to tell people what is good for them.
-----
We have all heard that if you build a better mousetrap, the world will beat a path to your door. Today, if you build a better mousetrap, the government comes along with a better mouse.
-----
The principles of wealth-creation transcend time, people and place. Governments which deliberately subvert them by denouncing God, smothering faith, destroying freedom, and confiscating wealth have impoverished their people. Communism (socialism) works only in Heaven, where they don't need it, and in Hell, Where they've already got it.

OMG.... Git Real used the "G" word. He must have voted for Saxby.

And how about this Ronald Reagan gem where he comments on businesses clamoring for government subsidies?

This is feeding the crocodile in the hope he will eat you last.....
-----
The inescapable truth is: government does not have all the answers. In too many instances, government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.
-----
The best view of big government is in the rear view mirror as you're driving away from it.
-----
Government does not produce revenue. It consumes it.
-----
And in closing: Individual farmers, laborers, owners, traders and managers... they are the heart and soul of development. Trust them, because whenever they are allowed to create and build, wherever they are given a personal stake in decidding economic policies and benefiting from their success, then societeis become more dynami, prosperous, progressive and free.
-----
Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.

I'll take Ronny any day over the clowns that have ruled over us for the last 20 years. God how sad it is how the Republican Party and likes of Bush, Chambliss and Westmoreland have bastardized the legacy of Ronald Reagan.

Oh and save your breath. No cut-n-paste here. Just a bunch of typing. Eye-wink

His administration was the start of this mess but that is OK if you want to believe something else, I'm just a fool after all. Your hero was not as smart as you think and depended on flunky's like Bush has done to put this country in debt and also in harms way, which we may never recover from. Yeah.. he screwed up the wonderful world and economy President Carter left us with didn't he. (Eyes Rolling)

depended on flunky's like Bush has done to put this country in debt and also in harms way

That is plum silly. Bush Senior's administration and policies were so much different that Reagan's. For you to even state that is soooo naive.

which we may never recover from.

Yeah.. I agree. And thank God again that there was a Republicrat majority in place during the majority of Clinton's rule or we'd be even in deeper debt than we are right now. My how we forget all of those blocked social programs and government expasions that the Clintons tried to enact. The only thing Clinton ever cut was military spending and it's strength. You again are a blinded fool to cast all this blame on the big gumament Republicrats of the last 20 years.

Yep, I think I will be a left leaning moderate for many years to come thanks to Bush and his ilk.

Gee... imagine that. Boo Boo is left leaning. However, you using moderate to describe yourself equates to me describing myself as being fond of Ted Kennedy. We both know deep down inside we're full of it in that regard.

Look on the county website. Look on the Secretary of State website. Call the elections office. Read the dozens of Shameless Saxby postcards that flooded your mailbox and you will find that with a minimal amount of effort even someone like Hutch (just checking to see if you are out there buddy) can discover early voting locations and times with minimal effort.

Forget the newspaper ads and TV ads. That would just be another waste of our limited taxpayer dollars. Move onto another subject man.

How about commenting on the so-called citizen input formality meeting on traffic issues that is coming up. What a waste. If anyone would have attended those trumped up traffic study seminars the county had about six or so years ago you would already know that the by-pass was a done deal. Folks have no idea of the counties plans to funnel in massive amounts of traffic from Clayton County via an eventual expansion of McDonough Road which will tie into our primary traffic arteries. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Dude... we are going to look like Buckhead traffic wise in a few years.
