The point that strikes me the most is that Stevens seems to think he did no wrong. It really underscores how those in political office get corrupted - a gradual process, starting with subtle and seemingly benign contacts from influence brokers such as lobbyists and developers and gradually progresses into full-blown corruption, akin to one who does not realize a substance abuse problem. It can happen to any of us who are human, hence the only real solution is a mandatory term limit on all public offices.
