Back again this year will be the 57th annual Fayette County Kiwanis Fair. The fall festival, which opened on Oct. 9, will run through October 18. Although the fair grounds were sold to the Fayette County School System in 2006 and the future of the fair came into question, the fair will once again be held at the old Kiwanis Fair Complex, located at 939 Goza Road in Fayetteville.

Fair coordinator Geneva Weaver said that this year’s fair will feature a new carnival. “This year’s carnival should have more rides and better rides,” she said.

As always, the Kiwanis Club is focusing on the Fayette County community by planning a fair that will cater to the approximately 30,000 attendees who will come from Fayette County as well as the surrounding region. Weaver said that she hopes residents will come out to support the fair tradition, which is the Kiwanis Club of Fayette County’s only major fund-raiser of the year.

Student night will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 when Fayette County students can get in for free with a student ID.

The Kiwanis Club of Fayette County was founded on September 21, 1951. Over 50 years ago, members began the tradition of hosting special events such as the fair and contributing funds raised to charitable organizations and the Fayette County community. All proceeds from the Fayette County Fair are donated back to the community.

Fair hours are weeknights from 6 to 10 p.m. and weekends from 12 to 10 p.m. Gate admission is free for those 4 and under, $2 for those ages 5-11, $5 for those ages 12-64 and $2 for those 65 and up. Armbands for fair rides will cost $15 each day.
