Aviation fest returns for 11th season

Peachtree City, Ga. will begin its second decade of aerial theatrics when it hosts the 11th annual edition of The Great Georgia Airshow (GGAS) on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12 at Falcon Field. The air show, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City and the Commemorative Air Force’s (CAF), Dixie Wing, will showcase modern and historic military aircraft, thrilling aerobatics and activities for the entire family.

Together for the first time at the GGAS, the Air Force Heritage Flight and Navy Legacy Flight teams will combine 21st-century aircraft with a famous World War II plane in dramatically choreographed demonstrations.

Also performing will be the returning Aeroshell Aerobatics team, the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation’s Sky Soldiers helicopter demonstration team, Greg Koontz’s Alabama Boys, Neal Darnell’s Flash-Fire Jet truck and more! For history buffs, a C-54 “Candy Bomber” will be on hand to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift.

In the GGAS tradition, the CAF Dixie Wing will display its growing collection of classic WWII and Korean War-era aircraft. Based in Peachtree City, the group is the Georgia chapter of the Commemorative Air Force, a national non-profit dedicated to restoring and flying vintage American military aircraft as a tribute to America’s veterans.

Saturday’s program will be capped off with the GGAS Gala dinner-dance where the public can meet air show staff and performers. Held at the CAF Dixie Wing Historical Airpower Facility, the gala features a silent auction, buffet dinner by Carrabbas and music by the Peachtree Jazz Edition.

Inspired by the Kiwanis mission of service, the GGAS benefits the community by allowing local non-profits, scouting and school groups to raise money for their organizations through sales at food booths. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Advance tickets can be purchased at selected Kroger stores. Advance tickets are $13 for adults and $5 for children, ages 6-12. Kids ages 5 and under get in free. After October 10, tickets will be available at the gate: $18 for adults and $7 for children, ages 6-12. Gala tickets may be purchased separately for $50.

Gates open at 9 a.m. both days with aerial performances from 1 to 5 p.m. To better ensure security and safety, absolutely no coolers, backpacks or pets will be allowed. For more information, visit www.thegreatgeorgiaairshow.com or contact the air show office at 770-632-0365.
