Barak Obama, (the intellectual) 09Sep, 2008:

Now, in all honesty, are we really to suppose that Obama intended to call Palin a pig?

It's an old saying that has been used to apply to anything from unattractive women--before and after Maybelline had a shot at them--to lemons on used car lots spruced up to be unloaded on unwary customers.

No one seems to think that Palin is unattractive, so that's out.

Clearly, he was being metaphorical and, while he knowingly used the line in the wake of Palin's lipstick joke, the whole thing was intended as a humorous and economical way of making his point that McCain is Bush all over again despite his recent rhetoric of "change."

I don't think it was anything close to a smear.

It is my understanding, from Palin's own words, that without the lipstick she is a Pit Bull!

Not a pig.

She said that the only difference in her and a pit bull was lipstick!

Anyway, the crowd reaction to Obama's comment was quite obvious about Sarah Palin's comment. However since the pig comment has been around and used heavily for many, many years, it was best that he left it alone and didn't try to explain it to the crowd.

That would surely have indicted him! He ain't no fool, but he might be many other things. I just don't know where he came from!!!! Same place as Dan Quayle, I suppose, but Dan wasn't running for President right off the bat.
Let us hope John Lives the four years.

8 years of Bush was a PIG - 4 more years with McCain is same PIG in lipstick.

They have no plans so they'll make the campaign about NON issues and phony outrage-- things are so good let's just keep it the same.

RIGHT...

Lot's of good liberal talking points here - meaningless, but good if you are a liberal.

I view this whole lipstick thing as childish on both sides and insulting to the average voter with a room-temperature IQ.

What I have learned out of it is that one candidate can't think on his feet and lacks the judgment to reject the schoolyard taunts written by the juveniles running his campaign. The other candidate thinks for herself (yes she has speechwriters like all of them), can think on her feet and has some class and genuine, mature good humor even when dissing the other side.

So which type of leader do we deserve? Depends upon the intelligence of those that vote in November. And that worries me.

Look at it this way:
A man that wants to lead America as President is getting his speech material from the funny papers!

Where is he going to get ideas on foreign policy - From watching reruns of the '3 Stooges'?

Submitted by jackyldo on Wed, 09/10/2008 - 5:13pm.

Just so it clear

it's McCain and Palin in the cartoon Fred..

They are the ones parroting change but not going to change a thing.

I see and read daily of Obama's plans and ideas to look to new ground to make this country better, but the Rovian idea is to co-opt Obama.

More republican lies will get us no where.

"A man that wants to lead America as President is getting his speech material from the funny papers!"

Seems better than McCain getting his dirty political tricks from Rove and Company. How 'bout that new McCain sex-ed ad. McCain's getting nasty, nasty, nasty and I smell a Rove.

btw - Great cartoon! I uploaded it for my computer background.

Toles told FOXNews.com that after the first use, Post editors got in touch with the campaign and Obama made sure to credit Toles when he used the line on Monday. Toles said he is OK with Obama’s use of his line now that it has gotten credit.

Fred Garvin's picture

However you left out one very important line from that quote you pulled from 'Foxnews.com"

"Toles told FOXNews.com that after the first use, Post editors got in touch with the campaign and Obama made sure to credit Toles when he used the line on Monday. But in Tuesday’s speech, he again used the line without referencing the cartoon."

So, the Obama campaign was caught plagiarising a comic, but it's o.k. since they now supposedly giving credit to the original author, but then on Tuesday he got caught again, so he really didn't do what he said he would do. Just another character flaw, I guess.

Plagiarism is definitely a problem in the Obama campaign. Heck, since both Biden and Obama have been caught, you might even want to call it an epidemic!

By the way, if this isn't an issue, why are you even bothering to comment on it?

Oh, that's right, this IS the Republican message, to talk about garbage and whine a whole lot, since y'all can't talk about issues and the dismal record of Bush/McSame.

Keep playin' those games, Fred. Republicans have nothing but games and distractions.

Issues like Obama's plan to "reduce taxes for 95% of Americans"
That's interesting, because close to 50% of American income earners don't even pay income taxes, so that is quite a trick.

What this really is, is a socialist "income redistribution" policy.
You see, someone who doesn't pay taxes is going to get a "credit" of up to $2,000 under the Obama plan. And where does that money come from you ask? Why, it comes from people who DO pay taxes.

It's Income Redistribution, plane and simple! Obama is using the money of people who actually pay taxes to BUY the votes of people that DON'T pay taxes.

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 09/11/2008 - 6:22pm.

Interesting. One of the wealthiest Americans compared his income tax payment (percent) with the percentage of income his secretary paid. SHE PAID A HIGHER PERCENTAGE! We need to fix that! . . .don't you agree? Most middle-income earners don't have businesses to take advantage of 'tax breaks'. There will be many more people who pay lower taxes next year - because they didn't earn much money this year. (Unemployment) Unfortunately - those who don't pay taxes usually don't vote. There are people who would like to make this a fight between the 'haves' and 'have nots'. Unfortunately - this year, due to our economy, there are more 'have nots' who will probably vote. Will the majority win? What do you think?

Well, I bring up a relevant issue, and no Liberals except for David's Mom wants to discuss it, and all she does is bring up class warfare and typical socialist, (liberal) talking points. She and her viewpoints are completely irrelevant. (Sorry Ms. David's Mom, but that's the way I see it)

So much for bringing up "issues" with Liberals - they don't want to discuss them because they know how bad Barack's "plans" will hurt America.

"So much for bringing up "issues" with Liberals - they don't want to discuss them because they know how bad Barack's "plans" will hurt America."

Funny Fred, independent economists have gone on record showing that Barack's health care plan will insure more Americans and be more feasible than throwing healthcare to the "we need a bailout" free market.

And, oddly enough, those making under $200k annualy will see higher tax rates under McCain. What's up with that. You can go to online tax calculators and see for yourself.

Fred Garvin's picture
Submitted by Fred Garvin on Fri, 10/03/2008 - 8:39am.

The majority of people who become uninsured come from affluent households. U.S. census data cited for 2001 showed that 57% who became uninsured had household income of more than $75,000.
Barack's plan to mandate health coverage at gunpoint is not welcome.

The NIHCM report does not recommend a mandate to require health insurance. U.S. voters show increasing distaste for insurance mandates of any type. California voters recently defeated a proposal to require everyone to carry health insurance. Massachusetts, the only state with a legal requirement for health insurance, recently hit economic stumbling blocks in executing the vision. It is not possible to legislate affordability of health insurance and more than it is possible to legislate that gasoline of grocery prices be more affordable. Legislative initiative in many states are misguided and will only result in further health insurance crisis like the situation in Massachusetts or New Jersey. New Jersey experimented with health insurance legislation in the 1990s that triggered one of the nation's worst levels of uninsured individuals and health insurance prices that are often higher than typical mortgage payments. In contrast, states with the least restrictive health insurance regulation now have a wider range of affordable health plans available than ever before.

Bottom line - keep government out of our lives. They have proven time and time again that they can't do anything right.

Because you were clear, respectful, and you didn't call me one bad name. I could get use to this! Real conversation. At any rate, I am not arguing whether health care should be reformed or not. I posted my string of posts to show:

1: Those saying Barack's policies will harm America have not been very good at predicting so far:

Palin will cinch the women's vote for McCain

Rev Wright will kill Barack's campaign

Acorn will kill Barack's campaign

Hillary will be Barack's running mate

There is no recession

The economy is fine

2: I also am pointing out that non-partisan economists deem McCain's plan of TAXING health care contributions, giving families a $5000 credit, and requiring them to find their equivalent health care on the free market (which was valued at $12,000)will put the middle class at much greater risk. So, when I say McCain is dangerous for America's future, I'm not just talking "...bomb bomb Iran"

Back in July of this year Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Stated that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac "are fundamentally sound, and not in danger of going under...and prospect going forward are very solid". This is one guy who can't admit that he was wrong in the whole game. Meanwhile both parties have accepted resposibiltiy for lack of oversight. But, two years ago President Bush and Senator McCain said that there needs to be more regulation over these two entities. McCain proposed legislation that would require it; however it was quickly voted down by self serving politicans that had their walets in mind, and not the interests of the people.

I guarantee future disagreements, but I promise not to call you a "typical liberal douche bag". (But, maybe something else if you don't stick to the deal...)

By the way, the fastballs really sting sometimes but you gotta keep playing. And, I'll give you this too....you throw a mean fastball.
