Clayco Schools officially lose accreditation

NUK_1's picture

No shocker there. They might have better luck in the appeals process if Perdue follows through and removes the 4 remaining idiots on the Board that a judge yesterday recommended removal of for blatant violations of the open meetings laws and anything resembling ethics.

What's most troubling to me as far as how the Clayco kids hopes for winning the appeal is just how STUPID the Board was(along with incompetent attorney DOrsey Whoever that recently left) and how much of a deep hole was dug, dynamited, then dug further. SACS gives 9 mandates and the first couple the Board does the EXACT OPPOSITE. They go out and instead of hiring a permanent school chief AS MANDATED, they instead get a contracted and overly-expensive guy that SACS even told them not to hire! To make it even worse, they give this new boss power over the Board itself, violating another mandate of SACS about having a properly functioning board. Giving up your responsibilities as board members to the administrator who can veto your own decisions is NOT how you establish a working school board. Idiots.

What a disaster and a grave warning about just how much damage some incredibly awful people serving on a school board can do if the citizens aren't watching them like a hawk at all times.

no evidence to show the school system had a fully functioning board or permanent superintendent...

As I said before, that great sucking sound I hear to the east are property values in CC going down the drain.

Regardless of the differing opinions that citizens have of Fayette County Board members - I'm grateful that citizens are on the ball and watching. There are no 'winners' in this situation. In demanding improvement in the educational governance in Clayton County - the SAC has given them room to protect those seniors who have worked hard to receive Hope Scholarships. Let's hope that the adults do the right thing.

... Goes to the one elected official who COULD have done something: Sonny "All Thumbs" Perdue.

Perdue COULD have removed all four of the miscreants as of Monday, thanks to the judge's decision on the court case. Instead of taking bold and decisive action, he PASSED, saying he was "evaluating" the court case.

Perdue bumbles worse than Gov. LePetamaine in Blazing Saddles. Getting closer to Lynn Westmoreland as the great shame of the Ga. Republican party.

I've not been impressed with Perdue's governing for some time, but it's not his fault whatsoever with the Clayco board. First, he couldn't remove the board members prior to the legal formalities that only concluded on Monday. Next, SACS already said they could care less about whether they were removed or not as it wasn't going to affect their decision which had already obviously been made that Clayco had failed to accomplish 8 of 9 mandates.

Waiting a whole day to remove the 4 idiots was prudent because this case does sort of set a precedent in Georgia as it's the first time someone elected has been removed for primarily violating the Open Meetings Act by the Gov., so thinking about it for a bit before making an instant snap-judgment was the right thing to do.

It's nonsense to think that SACS was going to suddenly reverse all their findings over the past years as well as very recently and say "it's all OK" simply because 4 board members were removed. The 8 mandates not met are still not met, whether the Gang of Four Idiots are on the board or not.

What is very alarming about the ex-board members is how many are TEACHERS. Not only have they wrecked Clayco with their stupidity, but they are still imparting it on school kids in other systems. Anyone too stupid to not comprehend that a requirement of hiring a permanent superintendent does NOT mean hiring a contracted temp dude SACS tells them up-front not to has zero business teaching anyone anything.

8 year olds have more maturity and less defiant "we'll do what we want to do and screw you" attitudes than the Clayco board members who were removed. It would be a great day if these clowns were removed from anything to do with public education.

Let's put the blame where it belongs. The voters! All of those "officials" were elected. They were elected by people who didn't care about education or experience.

This involves more than just the BOE in crime-county.

They got rid of a good sheriff, and in his place elected a napoleon look alike who attracted the Feds and many Federal lawsuits and charges. They got rid of a DA who at least met deadlines. They elected an idiot DA who missed a deadline on a murder trial and made national news several times because of it. Also that office is 10,000 cases behind.

At least in this last election they were smart enough to get rid of the DA and the napoleon sheriff.

Then they elected the hopeless idiots on the BOE, who got rid of the superindendent who at least had managed to keep their accreditation.

This all happened since the early 90's. It got worse when the demographics changed. It accelerated even more in the last 4-5yrs.

The mess in crime-county happened because the voters are dumber than snake mittens.! You got rid of several politicians who were doing a good job, and their only crime was they were white. Now you are suffering for it, and the counties around you will suffer for it too.

Nothing happens by accident. Bad things happen when the citizens let them happen.

You are so correct. Sonny Perdue should have stepped in years ago. I also place the blame here on him. This should never, ever have happened. Why this went on as long as it did, critical as it was, I personally will let him know my thoughts. Hope every Fayette resident will take the time to write, email, hold rallies at the State Capitol, what ever it takes to draw attention to this, and hold off these students coming to this county.

You apparently don't understand! Those school board members are ELECTED just like the governor!

Those are the people that the citizens of Clayton want!

They just want them to get a "diploma" any way they can.

Costs too much money to tutor those in need "en mass."

Big surprise here. We all knew it was coming. The incompetence of the Clayton School Board was so gross it almost makes one wonder if this whole fiasco wasn't by design, orchestrated to speed up the inevitable. Our School Board should give no quarter to the students from Clayton. We already have budget issues and cannot support them. They will not be able to keep up in Fayette classrooms, not because the majority of them are minorities, but because they're coming from a worthless and broken school system. If the state makes us provide for these students then I think it's time we as fed up citizens take to the streets. No more letter writing. No more blogging.

Look at the regard Clayton countians have for their county and school system now, what makes you think they'll have any more regard for ours? They got into this mess themselves and, accordingly, should get out of it themselves. Their infrastructure is already rotting and crumbling away and now they want ours. Let them rot.

They showed us.

The racially-charged Scott Cartel billboards are still up in Clayton County. It's our turn now (wink wink). REAL justice (wink wink).

Enjoy the work of your own hands, Clayton. I'm with the Avenger: Let 'em rot.

They made their choices based on only one qualification.(my race right or wrong) Let them enjoy the "fruits" of their own stupidity.

Anyone interested in helping them solve the problem?

Let us salvage what of those children that can be!

It can be done in their own area. Then they won't "taint" your county!

"Take to the streets!"

You can go right ahead, I'm not interested!

We will do whatever the state law says about the matter.

Apparently, this is the kind of board that the majority there want!

To ignore the state accreditation recommendations and lose their blessing is not only dumb but criminal!

Here are the facts folks as it appears to me:

The electors want a board who will be lenient on poor students.
The jobs available in the school system must go to those who think alike!
The refusal of the board to resign and try to save the accreditation is pure evidence of the above.

It won't matter anyway for the students going to college who can pass a college entrance test---even GEDs can get in that way.
Those who can't pass the entrance tests, needn't go anyway until they can. We have sent enough unqualified students to college.

Lastly, Most, if not all, the fault here belongs to the parents and teachers and school administrators for these students not having been taught since Kinder Garten! It won't change until we can get a generation who has sense enough to stop the bleeding.

Hold on Bonkers. Dont blame teachers, school administrators and parents except those who were NOT involved. We moved from Clayton 4 years ago (first time the BOE went crazy) after living there a lifetime. We fought an intense fight at meetings, on tv and in newspapers to inform and involve "good parents". Clayton's problems are multi-dimensional and are concentrated in the school system. Blame the powers-that-be in Atlanta who demolished the projects and dumped a significant number of the families into Clayton with no other provisions for them other than a roof over their head. Blame a self-serving for-profit union head who saw how to manipulate a low-functioning group of minorities with racially inflamatory words and accusations. Blame developers who filled up just about every inch of land with cheap homes and apartments. Despite all the problems, there are still excellent teachers, committed students and involved parents of all races (ie, Jonesboro High's Mock Trial 2-year National Champs!!). There is plenty of blame to afix, but what does that serve. The BOE can regain accreditation in ONE year if specific mandates are met. I'm betting they do!

Thanks for confirming what I have been told. I hope the citizens and the BOE of Clayton get the job done in a year!

It sounds like you are saying that due to mistreatment of these students by Atlanta and developers (I don't know what a union has to do with it) that they can't help the way they are for whatever reason: no
Daddy, no educated Mommy, a habit of demanding help all of the time, what their preachers tell them, and on and on!

Yet, you say there are a few good ones! Like those who like to "act" in a trial!

Are we to continue as is due to that?

Isn't there maybe a score of smart people over there who will do an "Obama" on the rest and get on the ball?

Submitted by Dondol on Thu, 08/28/2008 - 1:35pm.

The real problem begins for us now. How many of these students are we going to have to pay to educate in Fayette county. And you thought that the lines before were long at the Capt'n D's for dropping off students. I'll bet that there isn't a Fayette tag among 'em.

We need to keep an eagle eye on our own board members - I don't trust any of ours either.
