Musical opens at Southside Theatre Guild

Bye Bye Birdie

Say “bye bye” to the summertime blues and head to Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn to enjoy a toe-tapping good time as they present “Bye Bye Birdie.”

The musical is set as the 1950s transition into the 60s, and rock star Conrad Birdie is about to be shipped off to the army. As a final publicity stunt, Conrad’s agent sets up a farewell kiss that Birdie will give one lucky girl on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Kim McAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio is the winner, and as the rock star and his agent descend on the small town, the fun begins!

Southside favorite Ian McCarthy plays Conrad Birdie. Jonny May portrays his agent, Albert Peterson, while Kathryn Durham is Peterson’s devoted secretary Rose Alvarez.

Ashton McCranie portrays Kim MacAfee and Coty Armistead portrays her boyfriend, Hugo Peabody. Rounding out the principal cast are Amanda Lindsey, Angie Morrow, Bert Lyons, Tyler Shellnutt, Krystle Henderson, Melody Koppe, Bryon Willams and Terry Hoffman.

The cast is completed by a ton of talented teens and adults in the chorus.
