The Rev. Hershel Turner, Jonesboro, died June 1, 2008. He began his full time pastorate at New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, and also served at Macedonia Baptist Church, Manchester. During his tenure at Macedonia, he was called to lead the small 15 member Emmanuel Baptist Mission Church in Riverdale. During his 33 years of service here the church grew to over 1,500 members. Services were at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Hinton Harris and the Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lucille Turner, Jonesboro; sons, Lamar and Mary Turner, El Cerrito, Calif., the Rev. Keith and Sheila Turner, Fayetteville, and Thomas and Susan Turner, Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Chris Turner, Erin Turner, Ben Turner, Rachel Turner, Nick turner, and Megan Turner. Memorial donations may be made to Southwest Christian Care, 7225 Lester Rd., Union City, GA 30291. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.
