Candidate for Sheriff David SimmonsFor the past few weeks I have read some of the blogs and articles for and against David Simmons and it appears to be an awful lot of back and forth about this particular candidate. It piqued my curiousity and, as resident of Fayette County, I have relatives who live in surburban Detroit, and I checked into a few things myself. First, one of the sources who is one of the former Deputy Chiefs mentioned in the blog as having provided information about Mr. Simmons, in my opinion, is not the best individual to provide feedback about this candidate because he has numerous skeletons in his closet. This person has another agenda for his having provided "feedback" about Mr. Simmons. When Mayor Dennis Archer won the election and brought Ike McKinnon in as Chief of Police one of the first tasks was to remove this source from his position into a civilian position. This individual and numerous other command personnel were not performing and were removed from their positions. Obviously, this person is bitter about his having been removed from his former position. In addition, my sources tell me that this individual has a history of mistreatment of females on the job, as well as spousal abouse. Looking at the facts of this matter, it appears that Mr. Simmons is the most qualified candidate in this race. It appears that there are those individuals who are unable to attack his credentials so they have tried to attack his character. One of the topics in the blog focused as to whether or not Mr. Simmons is a post certified officer in Georgia. Speaking of credentials, I have been informed by members within the Fayette County Sheriff's Department that one of the Lieutenant Colonels, who used to be the administrative assistant to the Sheriff, has held this rank for some time, drives a department car, and has never been post certified! It seems to me that this should be in direct violation of department policy. How can a person become a Lieutenant Colonel on the department and never receive post certification???? In reviewing the qualifications of the other candidates none of them appear to have more than a high school education. I am of the opinion that in a vastly growing community such as Fayette County, there should be someone in charge of law enforcement that has the experience and qualifications to administer the duties of the department. In reading the letters to the editor that Mr. Simmons has provided to the paper, it appears that he has articulated a clear vision on his plans to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Fayette County. I would vote for him! quick silver 9's blog | login to post comments |
