Amphitheater

Grandpa Jones, Stringbean, Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings, and Earnest Tubb, will all be at the Amphitheater in the second half of the season, as "The Expired Outlaws!"
They are all dead but have been replaced by sound and look-alikes, so you won't know the difference!

Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, and Minnie Pearl will follow in September.

They work for food and shelter, so we should be able to make the Tennis Center payment by fall!

Two/thirds of the talent they hire for the amphitheater has few if any of the original members of the band! They would be 75!

Few on here seem to understand satire!!!!!!

Lets face it Sage, I would take the Outlaws with 1/2 an original member than most of the crap of today's artists. Besides Poco is opening up. Huey Lewis and his band is mostly original. Kansas rocked last time they were here. I suggest you stay at home and listen to an Outlaw album (I have them all) and let the rest of us enjoy the show.

Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone, soul and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you

All these years I've been singing the lyrics wrong!

"Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone, stolen glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you"

How embarassing!

There is a house that is shaped like an acoustic guitar on Wilkins Road, Fayetteville, just off of the intersection of Kenwood and 279. (The satellite picture of it is a hoot! A house-sized guitar in the middle of a neighborhood!)

Someone told me that it was originally built by a member of Kansas. But this was never confirmed for me. Anyone know the origins of this unusual bit of local architecture?

I found this:

Guitar House

Elvis Carden?

There looks to be quite a bit more info on it as well.

In high school we drove it by it everyday. I used to wish I lived there instead of the house I grew up in. It was the coolest house I had ever seen in the late 70s early 80s.

Yes, that's Ray Nelson, head of GNG. He's a great guy with an incredible history playing in several bands, in his younger days. Now his time is devoted to GNG. I recently helped him out, volunteering to teach guitar to some children.

Spyglass... go introduce yourself and get to know him, and his wife Louise. You'll have a great neighbor and friend!

Yep, I've met him, too. I attended his first organizational meeting after he moved here from CA. My intent was to volunteer in giving lessons to at-risk kids. Then all hell broke loose in my personal life, with a cancer diagnosis, etc., etc.

Main Stream--So, by any chance, were you also at Ray's house for that initial meeting? Did we meet?

Just back from Asheville. I want to move there. In particular, I want a house in Weaverville. Great, great little town. If you're planning an Asheville trip, try to squeeze in a couple of hours to browse the shops or eat in the restaurants there: Blue Mountain Pizza, Well-Bred Bakery, Sunnyside Cafe, Mike's Grill, etc.

I happen to have been born and raised in a part of Appalachia not too far from Asheville---same type of people anyway.
How ever Asheville has turned into a tourist trap in recent years--attracting all kinds of weird people to live there.
You also must know that it has a long hard winter season, but not so much snow--even for the mountains.
I doubt that you will find that the true locals visit those tourist restaurants much.
If you are healthy, wandering through the mountains in the summer is a treat. Also, within a 50 mile radius (100 miles D.) there are wonderful things to see having to do with our 17-1800 heritage--as well as people who although not hip, are true Americans.
The Civil War (not hot-Atlanta burning) the great coal mines, the local farmers, the mountain railroads, the deer hunting and trout fishing, and of course more tourist attractions, are plentiful.
George Washington himself surveyed much of the close by land for the Scots-Irish to grub out.

No, I wasn't at that initial meeting, but I've been to his house for other events that he's hosted. We also (GNG) had a booth at the chili cook-off last year, and I was the chili chef, if you happened to be there tasting the entries. Small world, isn't it...

We'll check out those spots in Asheville/Weaverville this week. We'll need a spot with free internet.

You've got free internet at Well-Bred Bakery and Blue Mountain Pizza. If the weather is good, you can sit on the front porch of the latter and enjoy a draft Sierra Nevada or Gaelic Ale while telling people here about how nice it is to be there. If you happen to spot a smallish house just off of Main (behind the Methodist Church) where the roof is being replaced, well, then, that is that is likely the home of some people I know. Eye-wink

We've exchanged waves, and I've heard folks say the same thing you have said, that he's a great guy. I'll make it a point to meet this fellow.

Many of the bands on the nostalgia circuit are hitting the Fred with less than half of their original lineups. When "Marshall Tucker" was here last time, they had exactly one original member and a bunch of bar band rejects. The Beach Boys had Mike Love and session musicians.

We're getting The Outlaws one year too late: Hughie Thomasson, the great vocalist, died last year.

Creedence Clearwater Revisited has everyone except their heart-and-soul John Fogerty but still put on a great show.

I think "Bobby Vinton" was a Disney animatronic robot, not sure about that one.
