Jazzy family musical plays this weekend

Here come ‘The Aristocats’!

Fayette Coweta Family Theatre, Inc. is putting the final touches on their family friendly musical “Disney's Aristocats, Kids,” which premiers this weekend.

This groovy musical masterpiece from Disney tells the story of Duchess (Emily Sipe) and her three kittens, Marie (Rebecca Wanderman), Berlioz (Ricky Macke) and Toulouse (Justin Duhon) as they are tossed out of their loving home by greedy butler Edgar (Robert Gould). They are made to find their way back into Madam's (Anna Marie Smith) loving arms by braving the streets of Paris.

While on their adventure, they meet the never-may-care Alley Cat, Thomas O'Malley (Brent Davis), who takes a liking to Duchess and her brood and decides to help them find their way home by way of his pals: the jazzy and musically inclined Alley Cat Gang. The gang, made up of Scat Cat (Brooke Stanley), Wacky Cat (Sara Burney), Slick Cat (Christie Crawley), Hep Cat (Stephanie Tobacco) and Mad Cat (Kristina Clark), will have you tapping your toes and saying “Everybody Wants to Be A Cat” all the way to New Year's Day.

Others the stranded group meet on their way home are Abigail and Amelia (McKenna Ceci and Emma Widtfeldt, respectively), two of the most humorous geese sister you will ever come across, as well as four military dogs, Napolean (Crystal Warner), LaFayette (Garland Davenport), Vichy (Maria McCranie) and Ssoise (Kathleen Balmes) that love to chase anything in their path and, of course, sing and dance. Throw in the brave mouse, Roquefort, (Carson Silbert) and ensembles of singing and dancing Baby Kittens, Alley Cats and County Dogs and this talented cast of 48 is complete.

The show runs just over an hour with a 15 minute intermission, so that little ones can stretch their legs and all can visit the snack bar featuring hot Christmas spiced cider, hot chocolate and holiday baked goodies on sale for $1 each.

Performances will take place at the Fayette Family YMCA Lodge House at 215 Huiet Road in Fayetteville on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 15 and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

To make reservations, call 770-251-7611 or go online at www.fcft.net/Aristocats. Tickets are $8 at the door and $6 presale. Seating is limited to only 120 at each performance, so making reservations is highly recommended as FCFT's last two Disney Kids shows at the YMCA sold out completely.

“The Artistocats, Kids” is produced by the same team that brought you FCFT's last tremendously successful “Disney's Beauty and the Beast” at Sams Auditorium last October. However, “The Aristocats, Kids” will appeal more to familles with children as young as 2 or 3 years of age and older, as it is more “little one friendly” with a shorter running time and lots and lots of cuddly and funny characters who will charm both youngster and adult hearts alike.
