Musical Fayette

hutch866's picture

Mrs. hutch and myself attended our first MAYWE concert last night {Metropolitan Atlanta Youth Wind Ensemble}
last night and my oh my what a talented bunch of kids. This ensemble is made up of 52 kids from the entire metro area plus some Ga. State college kids. I am proud to say that Fayette County {the county not the school make up 23 percent of this band the highest percentage in the band, Ga State making up 21%. Bpr you should be happy to know that 5 of the Fayette kids are from Sandy Creek, the highest concentration from any high school. FCHS has just the hutchette and we had a French Horn make it but she declined in favor of the concert band held at Woodward. Last year at the final concert of the YCBA band held at Woodward Academy the band director called Fayette County Band Land and she is so right, the caliber of musicians coming out of our county is second to none, so to all of our band directors here in Fayette both high school and middle school thank you your dedication to our kids is unsurpassed and know that it is appreciated.

How wonderful hutchette is a member of MAYWE. I hope Lil Chip's schedule eases up next year so he can audition for one of the youth orchestras.

That is encouraging- we do have a outstanding Band Director and Asst. Band Director that try their best to encourage the kids. I do not know the previous band director, but you know how rumors are.

We have had to battle discipline- as all bands do, but some was to a degree I thought I would give up- I am a calm person- but kids need to respect adults, somehow in the previous years they did not learn this.

We plan on helping the new Directors in anyway we can. Oh, and congrats on Hutchette.

Thanks again, that was a kind comment.

Now, do you find you like to use ground beef, or lean ground beef? Do you grill, fry, broil, just how do you prepare these burgers? What specific kind of potatoes do you use?

Let me see if I can find my bread pudding recipe, I'll get it to y'all tomorrow.

Still with us $$$bonknitsmith?

wonderful children, geniuses. Grill, fry, broil, sautee,(French anyway) steam, on a stick, bake, or raw with onions?
I personally like NY strip--medium. With a good Greek salad. And carrot cake.
Eggs and crispy bacon or plain sausage patties for breakfast--with Texas toast and jelly with OJ. Any coffee but $5 stuff.
A meal completely home-made from scratch, turkey and stuffing with ham, cranberry sauce made from actual berries, pan gravy from some ham or turkey, Potato salad from potatoes, onions, eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, etc., made not purchased made. Home made rolls, wow!
A few oysters and some spinach dip prior to the meal, and pumpkin pie from scratch, and either sweet potato pie or candied sweet potatoes.
When I go to band concerts, I always take my own rubber chicken and bland green beans and coca-cola. Kids hate it when you go and watch them. Ours got through five years of marching and concert bands with us missing more than watching. That way they could court some and take their dates home!
Now, try sometime the Arab cuisine as I have. Boiled goats eyes with camel sauce. Sheep cheese with camel cream. Dried goat shanks--sliced and re-constituted with sour milk home brew. (better than crowder peas and rocks).
Brain pudding with rye seeds soaked in boiled and strained camel urine.
The Koreans, especially the northern ones, have very interesting menus, but I won't get into that here.
All these Harvard, Yale, and Stanford students are going to cost you guys tons of money. Better start saving.

My kid doesn't hate when we watch, maybe it was just yours, and I guess you all couldn't ride the horse at the same time. The Arabs fed you that stuff because they didn't want you to watch either.

You do realize it takes the average and above average student 4 years to get through high school (at least here in FayCo it does), right? Maybe yours went to one where 8th graders were put in high school....maybe.

Thanks.

Your intentions for everyone in the county were clear. However, MAYWE has started to get very competitive and it's a great thing to make it. I know this because one of my relatives was in MAYWE last year, but didn't make it this year.

Another thing that a lot of MAYWE students do is the Georgia State Honor Band. This is two days of intensive music reading that I suggest for the hutchette.

As a product of the Fayette County Music Program, it really helped to have an outlet through which I could relieve stress (this is really true in the percussion section). Sandy Creek's band program led me to the U[sic]GA Honor Band, the Georgia State Honor Band, and also opportunities to perform at Troy State twice as part of the featured band (once with Flat Rock and again last year with SCHS), in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade, and numerous band competitions.

I suggest to everyone I know to join the band at their school because of the opportunities it gives you.

Now that I'm at Tech, I'm playing in the Symphonic Band. We're playing at a college band director's conference at Columbus State next February as part of our pre-centennial celebration. We're also currently trying to raise enough money to transport the Marching, Concert, and Symphonic bands up to New York for the Marching Band to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and for the Symphonic and Concert Bands to have a concert/gala in Lincoln or Carnegie Centre to celebrate our centennial.

So yes, Fayette County has many great musicians and music opens up many opportunities that aren't available to normal students.

of my & Acey1's Alma mater, Troy State, although it's now just called Troy University.

Drumline? You've got my attention! Lil Chip is a percussionist and would love to pursue it not only in college, but as a career. Glad to hear all the different groups you've been a member of and some of the places you've played. I hope my Lil will have some of those same opportunities as he gets older and as his talent continues to improve.

I was on the SCHS drumline all four years of high school as a snare player (Center Snare senior year). If you or Lil chip has any questions, I'll try my best to answer them.
