Candler Field Museum and Peach State Aerodrome will honor all veterans with a Veterans Day Celebration and Fly-In on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Come to the airport and enjoy food and drink while looking at a host of airplanes from the 1920s to the present. Candler Field Museum and Peach State Aerodrome's location is one mile west of Williamson on Route 362 on Jonathan's Roost Road.

Gates will open at 9 a.m. and the Grill will serve a Pancake Breakfast. Various antique airplanes will be on display many of which veterans flew during World War II, and Korea. The pilots of these airplanes will be conducting demonstration flights throughout the day and they will be available for biplane rides.

Barnstormers Grille will have a Chicken Que starting at 11:30 a.m. rain or shine. Dinner includes half a barbequed chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, bread, cookie bar and drink for $8. The staff will provide an alternate choice of hot dogs upon request.

At 1 p.m., the Pike County Fire Co. will demonstrate how they respond to an aircraft accident utilizing the latest tools and equipment on a real life airplane. They will show how to surpress fires with foam, and use pneumatic jaws to cut away metal in order to save human lives.

At dusk, the Candler Filed Museum will present an open air theater showing of “The Great Waldo Pepper” starring Robert Redford. The film is an aviation classic centered around the time period featured by the Candler Field Museum - the 1920s and 1930s.

The staff and volunteers will serve refreshments all day in the 1940s style NCO Club with prize drawings every hour. Children are welcome. Come and enjoy the fun and say thank you to our men and women of the armed forces.
