False Appreciation
There were 61 million total casualties during WWII. The USA had 295,000 casualties of soldiers, no civilians listed.
I would be willing to bet that the only ones remembered by the average citizen, currently, except for some families, might be the Sullivan brothers, Ira Hayes, and Ernie Pyle, a civilian.
Most won't even remember those three.
It won't be any different about Iraq and Afghanistan, yet we take every opportunity now to speak about them at public gatherings, as a whole. We talk about how they fight for us and that we should "back them."
We currently have a rash of Iraq veterans with mental problems and "brain rattling" problems, many have committed suicide, problems with which the Veterans Administration is utterly overwhelmed!
Has there ever been such horrible planning for such atrocities as this before we decide to invade?
I don't know how many of the seriously wounded (30,000 of ours, maybe) have lost limbs due to not avoiding IEDs on the roads over there. More terrible planning. Went in too quickly before we were ready, for sure.
Can we not spend what we must to insure that these fellows are taken care of now?
