Chip on the shoulder

It seems we have a few on here who get upset about racism, even if one only says some few words out loud.
What they don't seem to realize is that most of us want all races to do better and we only talk about problems in order to help eliminate them.
Have you ever noticed how republicans say dirty, nasty things about democrats (white, black, or yellow), and also how democrats do the same thing?
All that doesn't keep them from cooperating towards a better future in many endeavors--such as fighting side by side in a war.
Try to consider whether what is said is the truth about at least some of the race thay might be involved.
I know that, for one, I criticize my own race far more than any other and it should not keep me from saying what might be true about other races.
There are no excuses for deliberately doing wrong by anyone.

Well, that's the thing about stereotypes . . . usually they do describe some members of a particular group of people. The problem arises when a person chooses to characterize all people in a particular race by that stereotype. Every person of Irish descent is not an alcoholic. Every person of Latino descent does not come from Mexico, nor did every person of Latino descent come here illegally. Every black person isn't lazy and every Asian person isn't smart.

And, even if there is a grain of truth to a stereotype, I'm not sure what you're encouraging people on the blogs to do. Thebeaver has come dangerously close at times to advocating violence against a certain race of people. People on these blogs have said some of the most vile things about people who are muslim and about Latino immigrants. Where is the line, dollar? When is it okay to let someone spout ignorance (which reflects badly on our county) and when is it appropriate to "hip check" someone for stereotyping a group of people to the detriment of our community?

I know that, for one, I criticize my own race far more than any other and it should not keep me from saying what might be true about other races. There are no excuses for deliberately doing wrong by anyone.

Dollar, the problem is that what I might believe is true about another race may not, in fact, be true. There's no problem with saying, "is this a cultural thing with [fill in the blank] people?" But, when bloggers say "{fill in the blank} people cause [fill in the societal problem]", that's inappropriate because it attempts to link race and a negative issue when the two may not be linked.

You're absolutely, 100% right that there are no excuses for doing wrong but that statement applies to every person of every race. I just won't let someone characterize certain wrongs as belonging exclusively to a certain group of people without calling attention to the poor underlying logic.

As I stated earlier, verbal diarrhea and venom to characterize a race, ethnicity or religious belief as a group is Racist PERIOD. To justify it by saying "I criticize my own race" is looking for any avenue to stand on their soap box and be racist.

So when your white hood is off, you apply derogatory terms to your race, but when you’re fully KLAD, you’re allowed to use the venom in your core beliefs to attack other backgrounds?
