Another airport for Atlanta area

Of course this has come up before and since it usually pays for itself, there are not many people who care one way or the other.
Where the rough rub comes in is "where" it should be built. Due to air traffic and local transportation it makes sense that the second location needs to be at least 50-75 miles from the current airport.
But no, the old argument always comes up that it must be in Metropolitan Atlanta's adjoining counties, at least. Preferably in Fulton County.
Now we all know that attitude is about jobs and to heck with all other consideration. Also, it MUST be connected to downtown Atlanta and it's neighborhoods, and the current airport by inexpensive near free transportation, paid for by taxes.
It usually dies out and more is added to the current airport. An airport where 2 to 3 hours to get off the ground has become common.
Any time special interests are allowed to dictate such a serious decision as an airport location, it is not going to work in most cases.
That is why the City of Atlanta should have nothing to say about this decision this time.

Atlanta already owns thousands of acres in Paulding county & up in Dawson. Lawrenceville's airport is fair sized and the next airport doesn't have to equal Hartsfield. Midway in Chicago is an example. Also over time Milwaukee's airport has added services about 70 miles up the road from O'Hare.
A bold move would be to enlarge Chattanoga's airport and put in a 300 mph train. Or hey, build a regional rapid train system. 1 hour to Orlando / 2 to 3 to Tampa or Miami. You can't park at the airport, go thru the terminal, board, de-board, fetch your bag in less time.

We need just the opposite of what you said: using some podunk local airport.
What is needed is an airport that will make Hartsfield obsolete in 20 years. One that can land and off-load the new 800, double-decker airplanes, and maybe even space craft.
Not to mention the ultimate in transportation from a secluded monster parking space or building with constant fast rail to the lobby----baggage done at the parking building and sent seperately to the planes.
Terrorist safety beyond anything now being used.
And so on.
For goodness sake use some imagination once in a while.
