Lady Chiefs lacrosse team loses two, boys win two- both heading to state playoffs

McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs lacrosse team faced Wesleyan and St. Pius recently and lost both games.
McIntosh lost to Wesleyan 15-10. Kelly Polo scored five goals for the Lady Chiefs, Taylor Lugash added two and Christen Downing, Brit LaPalm and Katie Dew each scored one. Lugash also had two assists, while Rachel Weissman, LaPalm, Elizabeth Langley and Cailyn Worley added one.

The Lady Chiefs lost to St. Pius 9-8. LaPalm and Polo each had a hat trick and Lugash added two goals, LaPalm and Worley also had assists in the loss, as did Lindsey Beard.

This week the young McIntosh Chiefs boys lacrosse team continued their momentum heading into the state playoffs with victories over South Forsyth and Centennial. McIntosh defeated the team from S. Forsyth on Saturday by a score of 15-6. DJ and Zack Ward continued to lead the explosive offense with 11 goals between the two brothers.

On Tuesday, the Chiefs defeated a sound Centennial squad by a score of 17-9, scoring 11 goals in the second half. Captain Garrett Lee contributed four goals and one assist, in addition to DJ and Zack Ward’s nine goals, with additional scores from Huefner, Ott, and Benson. Face Off specialists Joe Maskery and Brennan Ott captured 20 out of 28 face offs, and defensive standouts Ben Simms and David Bexley led the way keeping the ball in the Chief offensive end most of the game.

The sixth ranked McIntosh team’s record now stands at 12-4, with seven of the victories against teams with winning records, and three of their four losses coming from a total of only four goals.

The Chiefs play Friday night on the road against Starrs Mill, 7:30 p.m. at Starrs Mill High School’s Stadium.

Both the boys and girls McIntosh Teams look forward to their first state playoff experience in their three-year history. The boys open Tuesday May 1, at McIntosh Stadium. Game times were not available as we went to print, please check www.citizen.com for playoff schedules.
