Starr's Mill boys and girls and McIntosh boys going to state golf tournament

The AAAA high school regional golf tournament was held at Braelinn Country Club this past Monday morning. The top six girls and boys teams from the region qualified for the event. The two boys teams and girls teams with the lowest scores on Monday would advance to the AAAA State Finals in Augusta on May 7.

In the boys competition, Starr’s Mill came in first place with a team score of 301. In second place was the team from McIntosh with a score of 311. Woodward Academy was just one stroke behind McIntosh at 312 and finished third.

Low scores for the Starr’s Mill Panthers came from Connor MacBean (73), Adam Baaklini (73), KG Bragg (77) and Cory Crump (78). The McIntosh Chiefs carded low scores from Jason Kimpel (74), George Maddox (77), Austin Barreras (79) and Brad Brown (81). In the boy’s individual competition, Nick Ward of Whitewater shot a one under par 71 and earned the Region’s Medalist award, while MacBean and Baaklini tied for second place with their 73’s. Ward will join the boys teams from Starr’s Mill and McIntosh in the AAAA state playoffs in two weeks in Augusta.

In the girls tournament, the Woodward Academy team took first place with a 154 total and the team from Starr’s Mill came in second place with a 169 total. Leading the way for Woodward was Jennifer Adyorough (76) and Jessi Mitchell (78). Starr’s Mill was lead by Kristen Bourg (77) and Lauren Hubbert (92).

In the individual competition, there was a tie after 18 holes between Adyorough and Whitewater’s Jessica Porch at 76. The two girls went to a sudden death playoff with Adyorough winning the playoff and the Region’s Medalist honors. Porch finished second individually with Bourg finishing third.

Both the Woodward and Starr’s Mill girls teams will be headed to the AAAA state playoffs in Augusta in two weeks.
