Jack Elder

Jack Elder, 75, Fayetteville, died April 16, 2007. He was born June 25, 1931, son of Willard Berry and Minnie Mae Jones Elder. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Jenny Davis Elder, siblings, Mary Lou Farr, Frances Milam Thompson, Jewel Wilson, John Calvin Elder, and Dot Elder, and nieces, Charlene Berey, and Sandra Edmondson. He worked as an educator in the Atlanta city and Douglas County schools for over 35 years. He was the oldest continuous member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where he was active in youth groups and with the Young At Heart group. He was a charter member of the Fayette County Historical Society and a former member of the board of directors. Services were at the Sandy Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Barron, the Rev. Philip Johnson, and the Rev. William Norris Hodges officiating.

Interment was at the church cemetery. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Alvin and Brenda Farr, Mae Farr, Catherine Johnson, William and Francine Farr, Donald Farr, Dean and Donna Milam, Diane and Charles Exum, Linda and Harold Hale, Brenda and Larry Gorman, Mary and Rick Loyd, Martha and Stan Pledra, Mike and Donna Bennett, Cindy and Tom Preis; a brother-in-law, Sam Thompson; a sister-in-law, Betty Elder; nephews-in-law, Jimmy Edmondson, and Billy Berey; 22 great nieces and nephews; and 26 great-great-nieces and nephews. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.
