Chiefs, Vikings and Panthers pick up region wins this weekFri, 04/20/2007 - 2:59pm

The McIntosh Chiefs varsity baseball team hosted Creekside on Wednesday night and won 9-6. The Chiefs built a 5-0 lead by the end of the second inning with RBIs from Eric Weiss, Brandon Harris and John Riccitelli. In the bottom of the fifth inning Weiss hit a home run and Ben Barter hit a double that drove in three runs to give the Chiefs a 9-1 lead. Creekside would answer with five runs before it was all over but McIntosh hung on for the win. Starr’s Mill (11-8, 9-2) has won six games in a row and picked up two region wins, both shutouts, this week. The Panthers beat Creekside 12-0 on Monday and got a 6-0 win over Banneker on Wednesday. Against Creekside, Brian Fletcher had four RBIs and a home run, Trent Freeman had three RBIs on a double and a triple and Ryan haynie, Ken Jackson and Terrion Pope all drove in one run a piece. Starr’s Mill will play at Fayette County tonight at 7 p.m. Fayette County (6-13, 4-6) fell to the Northgate Vikings (19-1, 9-1) on Wednesday 12-6. The Tigers had a 5-1 lead at one point in the game but Northgate scored nine of their 12 runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Vikings have won eight games in a row and will attempt to avenge their only loss of the season when they host Whitewater tonight at 5 p.m. They will play at Woodward Academy on Monday at 5:30 p.m. On Wednesday, the Indians fell to Hiram, 6-5. Jeremy Capshaw had three hits and four RBIs and Ben Inman and Recardo Billups had two hits a piece. East Coweta will host Tri-Cities tonight at 6 p.m. and will play at Mundy’s Mill at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. In 6-AAA play, Sandy Creek lost to Cartersville 14-0 in five innings on Tuesday but bounced back on Wednesday with a 6-4 non-region win voer Newnan. The Patriots (10-9, 3-5) have won six of their last eight games but three of those wins were not in the region. In 5-A play, Landmark Christian lost to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy 7-2 on Tuesday. The War Eagles (7-5, 4-3) will play at Fellowship Christian tonight at 5 p.m. and will host Providence Christian at 2 p.m. tomorrow. login to post comments |
