Streaks are a big part of sports and players and teams are always trying to stay hot. They may alter line-ups to get good match-ups, perform a specific ritual before each big play or wear certain uniforms to stay hot. Several local teams are riding some win streaks in region play and are hoping to carry them through the second halves of their season. Starr’s Mill (9-8, 7-2 region) continued their hot streak in region play with wins over Westlake last Thursday, 13-9, and Woodward Academy (14-3, 6-2 region), 8-3, on Friday. Fayette County (6-12, 4-5) got their second straight region win by beating Banneker (0-10, 0-7) 16-4 on Monday. The Tigers will play at Northgate tonight and will host Starr’s Mill at 7 p.m. on Friday. The McIntosh Chiefs varsity baseball team (12-7, 5-5 region) had won three of their last four region games when they beat Whitewater (12-7, 6-3 region) 9-4 last Friday night but lost to Woodward Academy 8-3 on Monday. Against Whitewater, which has lost two straight region games, the Chiefs got a complete game pitching performance from Brent Hardy, who gave up seven hits, three earned runs and struck out six. John Riccitelli went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Cameron Rich went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Nick Markhardt went 3-for-3 with an RBI. McIntosh will host Creekside (5-11, 1-8) at 6 p.m tonight and Whitewater will play at Northgate (18-1, 8-1) at 5 p.m on Friday. Sandy Creek picked up their third straight region win by defeating Cass (12-5-1, 4-3) 11-1 on Friday. The Patriots (9-8, 3-4) played at Cartersville (17-2, 7-0) last night after the paper went to press. Landmark Christian faced Mt. Paran last Friday and won 10-3.
