Calling ArmyMajRetired, Hutch, and all old school veterans!

AF A-10's picture

You all know that Hackmeister is a reluctant warrior. You know, the "war is a last resort" deal. Well, if today's reports are accurate, we are there with Iran! If we don't join with our Brits in kicking Tehran's teeth in over the kidnapping of 15 British sailors, we will have failed our most faithful international partner.
Today, in what very well may have been Intl or Iraqi waters, the Iranians seized British sailors from a British ship. Iran must know that they are on egg shells to begin with. To not abide by intl conventions and/or diplomacy should bear consequences.
So, even if we old schoolers need to jump the next Delta flight to Tel Aviv and then hitch hike across Arabia, someone needs to leave Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a calling card! Hutch? Army? You with me????

Regardless of who is at fault, someone neutral should be allowed to check on the status of the Brits while in custody. That would go a long way to showing good faith. Not that they care.
Then, we determine what happened and who was at fault. Lets try and be cautious before lighting another fire in the woods. And lastly, we attempt a diplomatic solution. I am all for that.
If none of these efforts prove successful, well then, Katie bar the door.
You have to put yourself in the position of one of those troops to really understand where some of these bloggers are coming from. "If it was me, what would I want my government to do?" The thought of being Beheaded or imprisoned for life must be absolutely frightening to those unfortunated souls.
I know its not OUR problem right now, but it soon could be. I agree, you need to stand up for those that stood up for you. Sometimes its not the most popular choice, but, who said doing the right thing was ever going to be easy? Just a thought.

I think maybe a bomber run over Iran would be the best way to get all 15 Brits beheaded that day. We don't ever accomplish anything anyway with bombing! We don't go in after with enough to take advantage of the immediate situation.

The current problem is that 15 British citizens are being held illegally.

Providing assistance to our friend, Briton, to effect the release of their citizens is what a friend would do.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Fri, 03/30/2007 - 11:40am.

Let me propose this to you? If 15 Iranians crossed into Iraq about a half mile, and we captured them and put them into Abu Ghraib, would you say Iran would be correct to expect Syria to help them get them released? They are old friends, aren't they?
Would Iran be justified in sending rockets into the green zone or Tel-a-viv to force us to release them.
Maybe since nothing much has happened yet we should negotiate for awhile?
We also could let doodlers like you threaten them with F-111s but they would know our government was just using you.
There is, of course, no long term intention to let them do this and not release them, and you know it.
It would be sheer stupidity to bomb Iran right now.

Sorry for the shotgun email, but time is of the essence. I'm a few timezones behind you guys, but the body clock is demanding sleep.
Trent, hutch answered as honestly and clearly as I ever could. British troops imprisoned today, but American Marines tommorrow if the situation is left unchecked. A coalition or Joint Force means that no matter the uniforms or country of origin, we all mutually support eachother. This includes Iraqi troops whom we are training to hopefully soon take our places.

Jeff, I am by no means advocating invasion or even large scale attack. I am absolutely advocating a ruler rap across the knuckles of the Iranian government more along the lines of our past Libyan message on terror sponsorship delivered by FB-111. Iran could have easily appealed to the UN that coalition forces were violating their waters. They would have had audience. China, after losing a "fighter" to a US EP-3, gave access to the detained US aircrew to the Red Cross.
Iran neither sought diplomatic remedy nor has given adequate account of the British troops' conditions. I hate that we set the precedents we have on treatment of detainees, but I feel a very, very swift and deliberate (yet limited) response must be given to deter future kidnappings. This is not an issue I would handle with great patience; not while we have imprisoned marines. I do hope your optimism pans out. In the meantime, we're prepping the ship and the jets Eye-wink

You got anything a little faster?

Avoiding French airspace is not a concern this time around. (Shouldn't have been back then either.)

Air turbulence has been known to shake loose ordinance, whoops! (Its not like we'd have to worry about a friendly incident if we accidentally dropped something while overflying France)

If you're driven the A-10 I want to buzz something, anything, upside down preferably.

My brother was the Sqd. Cmd. in Texas, they got anything we might need? He owes me.

Let me see if I can explain in a way you can understand. England is our most loyal ally, has been for many, many a year now, they've stood beside in Iraq and the gulf war and will be beside us for many years to come. OK, with me so far? Now, my man Hack here is a military man and in the same way that you fight and die beside your fellow warriors you also fight and die beside your allies.Hack calls himself a reluctant warrior so you can believe if he feels it's time to go, it's time to go. Sorry if I don't have this quite right Hack, you are much more eloquent then I, but that's my explanation of this and I hope it helps you out trent. By the way trent, I too am a veteran so I know a little about this.

I understand. Thank you for taking your time to tell me. My concern is if America will not finish the war in Iraq why do you think the people of the Democratic party will support England in a war? Iran is some of the people that are fighting American warriors in Iraq I am told? I am proud that you have served. My family will serve as soon as we meet all required education.

Thank you

Please let us not invade Iran just yet. Capturing or kidnapping British sailors there is a national sport used to draw attention to the disputed oceanic national boundaries between Iran and Iraq. This will be resolved soon with much fanfare and after a series of bombastic speeches. The situation is not going to be really serious until Iran tries to put the Brits on trial for espionage. They will probably say they are going to do precisely that but not follow through.

Also, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will not decide their fate. That will be up to the real leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Ahmadinejad is good for making speeches and riling the populous but has very little actual power. For instance, in all his declarations about nuclear power and all, most Americans don’t realize that Ahmadinejad has absolutely no say in the development. Khamenei has by law reserved all nuclear issue decisions for his own self and has specifically legally excluded the Iranian President from having any input.

Finally, and most importantly by far, al Queda’s fondest dream is that we attack Iran and get bogged down fighting the Shias instead of them (all Sunni’s) as we are in Iraq and Afghanistan. Did you know that Iran is holding Osama’s son in jail and offered him to us but we refused because we don’t talk or negotiate with the “axis-of-evil?” Iran hates al Queda. Let’s don’t give them a common enemy just yet.

If the Brits need us, they know our phone number.

My original post on these pages was in reaction to Col. Wade William's (ret) assertion that the U.S. was goading Iran into a war. Mahmoud's puppet masters will do anything to goad us to the brink because they are so sure we won't do anything about it. They'll get whatever nuke concessions they can from the 'world community' and then, hopefully, release the Brits in a 'gesture of good will.' Then they'll wait a few weeks and repeat. This will go on for years.
Anyway, Hack, I'm a reluctant warrior myself and on this one I'm with ya. I'll need a Hornet.

I'm not sure what Mr. Blair is waiting for. I hope coalition inactivity wrt Iran is not due to a lack of resources. After giving proof that the Brits were in Iraqi waters, Tehran says they must "admit" to being in Iranian waters. THIS SHOULD NOT FLY FOR A NANOSECOND. Even if we have to pull resources from Iraq for a week or so, this is worth it. I am livid that we are sitting on our hands with this very aggressive and overt display from Iran.

I'm getting that cross-eyed hypertension that PTC people get when you say TDK extension about Iran's incredible nerve. Now, faced with evidence that the Brits were not in Iranian waters, the Iranians dare mention trying them while parading them and coerced statements in front of Iranian TV cameras. $@# @*&N()!!!! Sorry about the language, but it is time for the "next phase" Mr. Blair. The European Union is on board. The coalition is on board. Someone needs to send a signal to the light tree and get this drag race started! We cannot allow this to continue aimlessly while these Brits flap in the Breeze!

I'm not trained but if you'll tell me when to pull the lever I'll yell out "Bombs Away" and let'er rip. I'm really a quick learner and I'll try my darndest to not allow you to make me puke.

I was reading today that this has actually happened a couple of times before and each time Tehran makes a show of it and then releases the men unharmed. Funny? They always seem to abduct the Brits. Why is that? I guess many are assuming the same results will happen with this episode too. I hope so.

What do you think about sinking any Tehranian military vessel that intrudes into Iraqi waters. What I'm confused about is why these guys didn't see these clowns a comin' and radio in for the likes of you?

This weekend is shaping up to be a very interesting one with the Iranian President Ahmaterrorist spending the weekend in New York City. Supposedly he's going to leave a whole bunch of people on his plane while he goes ashore. Do you think a nuke device might go off if something happens to their terrorist leader god?

I can't wait to get a transcript of his message to the UN as soon as it comes out. I have to. The Lion doesn't have cable.... only internet. Cool

Okay. old war ship, T-38 with concrete BDU-s, the sharpest fish hooks for git to snag the Brits with as we swoop by, and the obligatory armored vehicle for Armymaj if he reports here for duty! We need to send a statement quickly to Iran to check their aspirations here. And we can not ever allow our personnel to torture or come anywhere close to torture so that wackos like Mahmoud don't feel justified to respond in kind. I didn't know this had happenned before. This should absolutely not be tolerated. And for Dollar, I'm not advocating occupation or invasion. I AM advocating showing the Iranian government how vulnerable there IADS (integrated air defense system) is, by stealthing right through it and turning their version of the pentagon into a pile of saw dust and twisted metal. Or, we might choose a nuclear research facility or two. I was not a proponent of this while Mahmoud was just flapping his gums. But instead of going to the UN and saying that Brits were violating Iranian waters, Theran chose to provocatively kidnap members of our somewhat limited coalition. As such, we must stand shoulder to shoulder with the Brits, demand the immediate release of their citizens, and prepare to back that demand with swift action. There is no other message to send.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Sun, 03/25/2007 - 7:31am.

And just what do you think their next step would be, since we wouldn't do anything else except bomb?
Oh, I can think of hundreds of things they have already prepared to do.
My goodness man, how many times are we going to make the same mistake? They know we have planes and bombs!
Take a million or two soldiers in, wipe out, occupy, and ruin their economy, then leave, if you must.
All that would happen then would be Syria would buck up, or Russia would get nervous, etc.
I have no ambition for fighting the Arabs a little at a time, forever!
Squeeze them to death economically, if anything is necessary.
Quit using the damn oil.
