Red lights all trhe way

I remember reading an article either here or in the print edition a good while back. According to the article, Fayetteville was spending at least $250,000 for fiber optics to synchronize all the red lights in town thereby cutting traffic tremendously.

I've got to say from my own experience that this seems to have been a waste of funds. Although at times(evening 8-10PM) the signals seem good, for the most part we have to stop at every red light along 85 on the way from the court house to the pavilion. I do not believe I have ever seen this thing functional.

Such a system would be outstanding if they ever got it to work. Think of all the smog we create just in time spent at red lights being out of the air. Or more directly think of not having to actually stop and sit at every one. I would love either of these items.

What are your thoughts on this? Anybody else noticing this? Anybody think I am wrong?

What, in your opinion, are the worst lights in town?

You can synchronize every light in Fayette County but it will only get you so far.

You have to think about number of traffic lights, how close they are to one another and an increasing number of cars. The flow through technology can only take you so far before it is overwhelmed.

Fayetteville is one of the worst at annexing land and building dense subdivisions on it. That is a major problem.

However, Fayetteville has the problem of being a "betweener". It between Peachtree City and Clayton and Henry Counties. A lot of those people heading somewhere have to go through Fayetteville. The Pavilion Center makes that really bad.

I am going to put my two cents in first by saying the worst light in town has to be at 85 South and Ramah Road on Sunday just after noon. The back up here reaches nearly to the trading post on some Sundays.
