Today our Secretary Of Defense sets out to explain just how he is to go about and terminate the current 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy prevalent in today's military. Americans now will line up on both sides of the issue and 'experts' will abound as talking heads extolling their points of view.

I wondered just how long and how desperate our political leaders would have to be to use the term 'spending cuts'. I guess it took a truck driving former male model declaring that the seat he was seeking actually belonged to the people of his state and not to any one individual or political party.

Would the Citizens of Peachtree City be so apathetic as to elect an individual whose four years on Council reflect an affinity toward a failed mayor’s policies? Would those citizens also elect an individual who would go to great expense to obfuscate their record? Would they go so far as to elect someone who has proven to be an impediment to real progress and a protégé of the ‘good old boy’ network? Ladies and gentlemen, this is not merely a council seat, but the office of mayor and direction of our fair city for the next four years.

Peachtree City Politics

Here we go again, a mere three years have gone by and we are apt to have an incumbent mayor vying to retain office. The only difference is his opponent will have had just over a year and one-half on Council and privy to the city's business dealings(both good and bad). This election will likely have the city divided more evenly, unlike the previous mayoral race when the incumbent was soundly defeated.

Let's see now, a $3.5 million shortfall in the city budget and no one saw it coming, or did not possess the fortitude to shout a warning. Or maybe it was foreseen and kind of mentioned here and there with an appropriate amount of spin that would allow those we elected to keep kicking it down the road.

...perhaps a generation or longer ago went hand in hand, but now we mere citizens have to view the terms as an oxymoron. In today's overregulated and "me first" society those we elect to public office have conveniently ignored the term service and have replaced it with the deadly sin, greed. Some may argue out of that assessment but would be hard pressed to avoid the label of lust as it pertains to power in office.
