Ron Paul supports a return to using gold reserves to back the US dollar. Since Pres. Nixon took the US dollar off the gold standard in 1971, government spending has been uncontrollable. The dollar has been losing value. Just look at the rising prices of homes, groceries, cars, clothes and everything else. Gold has value, paper doesn’t. A gold backed dollar would restrict government spending until the debts were paid. Pay your debts then you have more money to spend. It’s as simple as that. The US can’t pay for wars, border control, health care, social programs, etc. with a valueless piece of paper and control inflation. The US is headed for bankruptcy, a collapse of the monetary system and devaluation of the dollar. Everything you, I or the government does depends on a stable dollar.
