Margot: Barry Amos is at it again

Its hard to keep a good bureaucrat down. Fired just 12 months ago from Tyrone, in part for changing zoning laws that took away property rights for downtown redevelopment, Barry became Stone Mountain’s new City Manager.

Bonkers: Lack of citizen's inaction!

Although it was easy to see as long ago as about 2002, even I wasn't pessimistic enough to see the economic troubles we currently have.

PTC Avenger: What's Really Happening In Gaza

Here are pictures you won't see in the media. I thought Israel was targeting Hamas, instead there are bodies of dead children strewn across the ground. What's going on over there, and our government's tacit approval, makes me ashamed to be an American.

First of all, I would like to thank the FCBOE for joining the 21st century and putting a podcast of their meeting on their website.

hdbulldawgs: Craigslist Jobs and Postings.

hdbulldawgs's picture

Good Morning.

I want to address everyone that has been looking for a job for months like myself.

Now, I have been looking in this online site (thecitizennews.com), ajcjobs.com, and on Craigslist.org. Let me tell you that I posted a listing on craigslist.org about looking for a job with my qualifications, and the only e-mails I received were from overseas critters wanting to name me as the "next of kin" for someone that died years ago and has unclaimed money stashed somewhere in africa or the UK.

Nitpickers: Job Losses

The government says at this given moment that 7.2% is the unemployment number---that is one in about fourteen who wants a job who has none!

sniffles5: Dubious FCBOE "savings"

sniffles5's picture

One of the savings proposals presented to the FCBOE back in June was to "reduce the secretarial staff at the county administrative office".

An Email I Received On My Baltic Dry Index Video:

I’ve been discussing the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) with everyone I can for months now. I started following it in June of 2008. It’s not a traded index so no one profits from the index itself, which makes it virtually manipulation proof. It is what it is and that doesn’t bode well for any of us.

MacTheKnife: Board Member: "Teachers... Jerks", Human Resources: How to get the 2.5% back from teachers.

I listened to the "PodCast" of the board meeting. You should too. If you would like my take and summary, here it is:

Our teachers can rest comfortably knowing that at least one Board Member, Ms. Smith, thinks the majority of teachers are "Jerks" and their very own Human Resource Director, Renee Ellis, claims to have spoken prior to this meeting to the school's lawyers to investigate how best to legally take the teachers /parpros/ secretaries 2.5% raise.

sniffles5: Fayette BOE: Fewer Students? Hire more teachers!

sniffles5's picture

Ever wonder why Fayette BOE can't budget?
Consider this:

School enrollment has declined every year for the past four years:

Mike King: Georgia Politics And Common Sense....

...perhaps a generation or longer ago went hand in hand, but now we mere citizens have to view the terms as an oxymoron. In today's overregulated and "me first" society those we elect to public office have conveniently ignored the term service and have replaced it with the deadly sin, greed. Some may argue out of that assessment but would be hard pressed to avoid the label of lust as it pertains to power in office.

Bonkers: Take this as my tewuest!!(I mean request)

It appears that any county, city entity who is-planned their budgets can simply ask for more money and get it!
No thought is being given to cut expenses back to the budget, it seems.

steven woodworth: School Supt. and Leadership

Dr. DeCotis is absolutely correct. The school system may have a budget shortfall and the issue should be addressed. Dr.

dollaradayandno...: A suggestion for county budgets!

Why don't they simply have Sonny sell some bonds like the fed does and dole it out to the local banks, who will loan it to the school system, the towns, etc.?

Bonkers: Well, it has started

This recession-soon depression, has begun to show in those supported solely by taxes or fines.

We were lead down the rose-pedalled path that Cheney talked about, by an administration who accomplished only one thing---starting wars they couldn't win or even improve the situation.

longtimeresident: Teachers Giving Back Raises

Well, once again we have been led astray by the BoE. We were sold a bill of goods regarding SPLOST, and are now asking for our overworked, underpaid, highly skilled teachers to give back their meager 2.5% raise. Perhaps our Board has forgotten what it feels like to live on a salary that is riduculously low, particularly given the educational credentials and professionalism of our teachers.

mapleleaf: Fayette teachers asked to donate their raises

How about that!

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports this morning (Jan. 6, page C6) that The cash-strapped Fayette County school system is asking its teachers to voluntarily return the pay raises they received last spring.

in the AJC correctly? The FCBOE has asked teachers to "voluntarily" donate their raises?!? This brings questions to my mind, does anyone else wonder about this? Do you reckon the BOE, all their layers of management, multiple assistants, and that person who made $22(?)an hour making copies, wonder if they donated their raise?

I followed the detour signs until they stopped putting them up about at Ruby Tuesdays, and gave up.
