Senoia's big day in the sun is today, but city officials are hoping the millennium photo shoot doesn't cause too many problems. Nobody is quite sure how many people will gather in downtown Senoia at 1 p.m. tomorrow for the photo shoot organized by Gary Gruby. That's one of the main problems that has city officials a little apprehensive. During Tuesday night's City Council meeting, Police Chief Ben Thomas expressed concern over the event. There was no planning regarding the city on this event. We have to be included, he said. Mayor Joan Trammell said she met with Gruby last week to talk about items such as parking, clean-up and street closings, but he said he didn't need the city's help. He said there's going to be a lot of Boy Scout volunteers. He did not want designated parking, she said. But in the future, Trammell hopes to create a plan for events that will use the city streets. Thomas also wants to make sure enough streets are clear in case an emergency vehicle has to get through the crowd. Gruby's idea of photographing the entire town on New Year's Day has drawn national media coverage and city officials are hoping it goes off without a hitch. Gruby has asked for people who wish be in the picture to start gathering at the bottom of Main Street near the railroad tracks at noon to start placing the people and animals who will give future generations a glimpse of what Senoia looked like Jan. 1, 2000.
