and Lady Chiefs split ar recent swim meets By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The Chief and Lady Chief swimmers of McIntosh High School split their wins at two recent meets. In a dual meet against Starr's Mill, the undefeated Lady Chiefs dominated the Lady Panthers with a 173 to 100 victory. The Chiefs fell to the Panthers by the margin of 126 to 125. The Lady Chiefs produced several firsts against Starr's Mill. Sophomore Anya Lee qualified for the state championships with a 2:21.8 victory in the 200-yard individual medley. Lee also qualified in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:04.61. Senior Emily Maple won the 50-yard freestyle and junior Molly MacGregor placed first in the 100-yard freestyle. Freshman Ali Derr took first in the 100-yard backstroke. Lee, Derr, Maple and Becca Thome combined to win the 200-yard medley relay, qualifying the team for the state championships. The 200 freestyle relay was won by Derr, Thome, MacGregor and Erin Bartles. The Lady Chiefs completed the relay sweep by winning the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:08.03. Sophomore George Clark led the Chiefs with first place finishes in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. The Chiefs did not have many more first place finishes, but challenged the Panthers with many second and third place finishes from Luke McMurray, Billy Whitehouse, Michael Powers, Mike Broker, Phillip Hesser and Ethan Bigham. McIntosh then participated in a tri-meet at Sequoyah High School. The Chiefs and lady Chiefs squared off against Sequoyah and LaGrange. The Lady Chiefs finished on top, scoring 118 points overall. Sequoyah's girls finished with 102 points, while LaGrange scored 22 points overall. The McIntosh boys finished in second place with 86 points. Sequoyah's boys won the meet with 99 points, while LaGrange placed third with six points. Becky Brokish led the Lady Chiefs, winning the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Other first place finishers for the Lady Chiefs were Maple in the 100-yard butterfly, Derr in the 200-yard individual medley, Asami Mase in the 100-yard freestyle and Thome in the 100-yard backstroke. The relay teams also were victorious in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. The boys produced their share of first place finishes as well. Clark dominated the 200- and 500-yard freestyles, easily winning both, while Powers won the 50-yard freestyle and Chris Jobson won the 100-yard breaststroke. McIntosh's boys also won the 400-yard freestyle relay. McIntosh swimmers get a chance to rest up as they won't be back in action until Jan. 14, when they take on the Sandy Creek Patriots at the Kedron Aquatic Center. |
