Here's what to do
'just in case' The
following is the text of a news release from
Peachtree City concerning preparations for the
rollover of computer clocks to the year 2000:
The City of
Peachtree City has established a Y2K contingency
plan in the event of any prolonged power outages
or communications failures.
Neely Fire Station
will serve as an emergency operations center
during the week of Dec. 31 to Jan. 7 as the city
monitors any effects of the Y2K phenomenon.
In the event of
prolonged power outages or communications
failures, the following procedures will be
enacted:
1. Emergency
bulletins will be broadcast on WSB affiliate
radio stations: News Talk 750 AM, B-98.5 FM, News
Radio 680 AM, Jazz Flavors 104.1 FM and The Beat
95.5 FM.
2. In the event of
communications failure of either the telephone
system or the 911 communications, residents who
have true emergencies that would normally require
dialing 911 may go to one of the four Peachtree
City fire stations: Leach Station 81 100
Paschall Road off Ga. Highway 74 south across
from Willow Road; Neely Station 82 105
Peachtree Parkway north across from the former
A&P center; Satterthwaite Station 84
451 Crabapple Lane off Peachtree Parkway north in
Kedron; Weber Station 83 481 Peachtree
Parkway south by Balmoral Village Apartments.
3. In the event of
a loss of electrical power, limited shelter may
be made available at the Gathering Place (203
McIntosh Trail) for Peachtree City residents with
medical or other short-term special needs that
require a controlled climate or access to
electrical power (for medical devices such as an
oxygen concentrator). These individuals should
make prior arrangements with the Peachtree City
Fire Department by calling Neely Station at
770-631-2526.
No pets will be
allowed at the shelter, and the shelter will not
be available for the general public.
Residents are
responsible for ensuring they have appropriate
supplies of food, water and medication on hand
for any emergencies that result in power outages.
