This is a year of firsts for Northgate High School and last month, the school had its first Miss Northgate Scholarship Pageant.

Margaret Skrmetti won the title, which featured 18 contestants.

During the evening, the contestants were judged on appearance, poise and presentation, on-stage personality and overall appearance.

The young ladies first appeared in jeans and tee-shirts to introduce themselves to the judges and then returned in evening gowns to tell the judges something interesting about themselves.

Semifinalists selected included Jessica Ivey, junior; Jennifer DeBono, freshman; Morgan Barfield, senior; Kara McLaurin, sophomore; Bridgette Carton, senior; Chayna Bate, sophomore, and Margaret Skrmetti, freshman.

In the second round, the contestants were questioned about the autobiographies they had provided and the judges selected Carton, Bate and Skrmetti as finalists.

Before the announcement of Miss Northgate, category winners were named. The winners were:

Freshman princess - DeBono.

Sophomore princess - Bate.

Junior princess - Ivey.

Senior princess and Miss Photogenic - Carton.

Carton also placed second runner-up, while Bate was first runner-up.
