How many officials live close to jail expansion?

I am writing this letter in regards to the jail that is currently being proposed. I am really amazed that the elected officials would agree to have this huge “eye sore” right in the heart of Fayetteville.

I would like to know how many of our commissioners live near this proposed jail. My guess is none, because if they did, they would not vote to have this next door to them. Sure, some might say it needs to be close to the courts, but that is merely for convenience. It really needs to be out, away from the downtown area, away from all schools and as many businesses as possible.

I have not read any article from any citizen of this county that thinks this is a good idea. I have lived here nearly 30 years and it really saddens me to know that the city cares so little about the opinions of the citizens. The citizens have the right to decide what is best for their city. Seems like the commissioners only do what is best for their pocketbooks.

The meeting to discuss the proposed jail was scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 9, but was rescheduled until the first of the year. Are they trying to pull a fast one? If the commissioners don't wise up and listen to the citizens and do what we feel is best for our county, I certainly urge everyone to remember them on election day and do not reelect them.
