Liturgy, charisma wed in Christ the King CEC

By CAROLYN CARY

Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church was begun in a home in September 1996 with 19 people in attendance. The congregation is now home to 150 people.

Though currently meeting at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, the church will close out in January on property just over the Coweta County line.

The mission of a Charismatic Episcopal Church is to bring the rich sacramental and liturgical heritage of the early church, the power of Pentecost, and the infallible truth of scripture together in one expression of Christ's church for this generation; to provide a home for all Christians who seek a vital, powerful, energetic and yet stable church in which to grow up in love with one another and in the knowledge and love of God, according to pastor the Rev. Canon W. David Epps.

Also the church's founder, Epps has been in the ministry for 30 years. Born and reared in Kingsport, Tenn., he served in the Marine Corps for two years, and was graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1975 with a degree in social work. He was reared a United Methodist and pastored for several years during college.

He received his doctorate of ministry at Berean Graduate School of Theology, in Wichita, Kans. in 1981.

He has pastored in Tennessee and Colorado and came to Peachtree City 16 years ago. He served at Fayette Fellowship, now Trinity Fellowship, for 13 years.

Epps' wife, Cindy, she is a commissioned minister. They met at college in a speech class and she is an assistant professor of nursing at the State University of West Georgia. Married in 1971, they are the parents of Jason, 27, who is a detective for Peachtree City; John, 25, who is self-employed in the sign industry in Newnan, and James, 18, who is in the Air Force linguistic school, studying Chinese. There are four grandchildren.

Epps serves as a volunteer chaplain to the Peachtree City Police Department, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, and the Senoia Police Department. He is a Certified Master Chaplain.

Sunday morning worship is at 10 a.m. in the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Ga. Highway 74 north and Senoia Road. It can be reached at 770-251-2760. The e-mail address is CTKCEC@aol.com.

The founding pastor of Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church is the Rev. Canon W. David Epps.
