Conference center gets first green light

Is an $80 million conference center in store for Coweta County?

It very well could be after Tuesday's approval by the Coweta County Development Authority of an inducement letter for Tara Executive Conference Center and Golf Resort.

The letter allows the resort company to proceed with steps to secure funding to build a facility near exit eight at Interstate 85. The proposed facility would cover 19 acres and would be near Orchard Hills Golf Club, said development authority Chairman Mike Barber.

“We don't supply the money. They would have to transfer the property to the development authority, though,” Barber said.

The next step is for the resort company to bring the inducement letter to the Coweta County Board of Commissioners for its approval.

Once the county approves the concept, the company can start seeking funding sources. While the company also is looking at developing the center in other counties, Barber is hopeful the group will choose Coweta.
