The Fayette County wrestling team was pitted against four schools at the Henry County Duals. They showed their depth, experience and talent, won three of the four matches and placed second.

The Tigers' first opponent was Winder Barrow, whom they defeated 59-16. They beat Northside-Warner Robins 84-0 and then beat Shiloh 48-35. They faced the host, Henry County, in the finals and lost 43-30.

“We gave a good battle,” said Coach Jim Bailey. “The loss in the finals amounted to two matches lost and with three starters out and three freshmen in there instead, we did just fine.”

Many of the Tigers' top returners won all of their matches at the meet. Jarrod Bailey, Brad West and Nick Salters each went 4-0 and Blake Corbin went 3-0.

The Tigers have a lot of depth and good leadership from their returning starters. Nine seniors are starting for the team and many of their underclassmen have two to three years of wrestling experience. “It is still early in the season, we're still rotating people around and getting into shape,” said Bailey.

Fayette County will host the top ranked team in the state, Harrison, and Douglas County Tuesday evening. Harrison has three state champs on its team and will certainly give the Tigers some tough competition. Fayette County also will wrestle in the South Metro Invitational Friday and Saturday.
