Fayetteville "Tree of Light' ceremony is this Saturday

"A light is symbolic of life and love. Through the ages, across all religious lives, light represents the true spirit of the holidays as we remember family and friends, and think of gifts and the wonder of life."

-- Anne Stewart

Southwest Christian Hospice Tree of Light will be a part of "Fayette Christmas on Main Street" again this year. The Lighting of the Tree will take place on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. along with a Christmas music program featuring students from Fayette County schools.

The Tree of Light offers a way in which residents may share in the ministry of Southwest Christian Hospice. A live tree has been placed on the grounds of the Fayette County Administrative Complex at the intersection of Georgia Hwy. 85 and Stonewall Avenue across from the Fayette County Courthouse in honor of this organization. Each light on the tree will represent a donation of $15 or more given in memory or honor of someone special.

Southwest Christian Hospice offers home care services, free of charge, to terminally ill residents of South Fulton, Fayette, Clayton, Coweta and Henry counties. Established in 1983, Southwest Christian Hospice has ministered to more than 1,600 patients and their families. Since the opening of the organization's inpatient facility in 1987, volunteers have given more than 114,000 hours of service.

The Tree of Light provides a living symbol of the presence of loved ones. Funds raised through this project are used to support this ministry.
