Southland Nursing Home in Peachtree City took six out of ten first-place state awards at the recent Georgia Nursing Home Activity Director's Convention. The awards were presented at a recent banquet in Atlanta.

Two of the awards involved the Citizen Newspaper. The home won “Best Newspaper Article” for the Prime Timer article by Janet McGregor on the 1999 Ms. Southland Beauty Pageant. It also won “Best Photograph” for a photo taken by and published in The Citizen. The photo showed Southland resident Colonel Hugh Quarles with students from J. C. Booth Middle School.

Other awards included 1999 Volunteer Group of the Year, 1999 Teen Volunteer of the Year, Special Public Relations Program and Best Out-of-House Newsletter.

The Special Public Relations Program was awarded based on information included in a scrapbook compiled by the home. The scrapbook highlighted the beauty pageant and the involvement of the community.

Twelfth-grader Chris Napoli was the recipient of the 1999 Teen Volunteer of the Year award. Napoli has volunteered his time and talents at Southland Nursing Home for the past three to four years.

Southland Nursing Home is in Peachtree City on Wisdom Road.
